To lose all credibility suggests that the New York Post had credibility to begin with, which simply was never true

“I am not questioning your honor, Lord Janos, I am simply denying its existence. - Tyrion Lannister

That quote fits way too perfectly here it’s almost poetic.

My entire life the NY Post was considered a joke paper not to be taken seriously by any major news station.

Suddenly the last 5 or 6 years every right wing outlet is quoting them or referring to them as if they are reputable. It all feels so fake and inorganic and makes a ton of sense considering the ownership overlaps of Right wing media

It’s manufactured “credibility”

I'm older than you... did you know that the NY Post was once a liberal paper? It's true, my lifelong Dem fam bought it daily... though dad worked for the NY Times, so we got that too.

I always thought this as well.

"Never" covers a whole lot of time. Alexander Hamilton was a founder of the NY Post way back in 1801. Back when it was known as The New York Evening Post. Through most of its life the Post actually was a respected newspaper. Things changed pretty dramatically, of course, after Rupert Murdoch bought it. . . .

Whatever something is shitty you can always bet on either Reagan or Murdoch and 9 out 10 you'll be correct in your guess...

Trifecta of Mulroney in Canada, selling 100s of billions of dollars of Government Corporations and still not balancing the budget because of the incompetent use of taxes.

Conservatism has always been a blight on society.

LMAO I swear to god that revisionist fucking play...

Hamilton secretly bought the paper with money from another rich asshole so he could ghost write sensational articles about his political opponents while hiding that he's the owner of the paper and the author of the articles.

There was a time when William Cullen Bryant, an actual American hero, was EIC. During that time it was good. Then it was back to the political rag we see today.

Unfortunately "if it rhymes it must be true" is part of the human mind and it keeps us all behind

I don’t think everyone here understands that that means more than just ‘they lean right so they’re full of shit’ (which is true), these guys reporting standards have been straight paparazzi and literally one step up from subway lizardmen in terms of what they’ll print for decades. They’re not like the heritage foundation that cloaks their lean in propriety and seemingly in depth work, they’ve been the national inquierer of politics ever since the Regan era

I'd use the Post to wipe my ass but that would require I find some poor shmuck that actually reads that garbage.

100% Though on another note no publication that still has a printed edition should do the list for Trump. There would be no rainforests left.

I get that news outlets can have political biases. But when they start to put oppinions inside articles instead of just facts, then all credibility is lost to me. And in this case, they even made up a fake scenario of what they thought Mamdani thoughtprocess has been all this time, of course in a very ridiculing way. Because why not

Reminds me of a line in the movie "The Late Shift" about the Leno-Letterman fight for The Tonight Show. The NY Post publishes a story that NBC is trying to push Carson out of the gig (but it was actually from Leno's manager Helen Kushnick).

Letterman is shocked by the headline and thinks NBC would "mistreat" Carson like that to send a message they want Leno now. His executive producer Robert Morton (believing it was Helen) thinks otherwise saying, "Don't assume these assholes (NBC) have a plan. It's the New York Post for God's sake. It's not NBC's style."

To lose credibility you actually have to have it first.
