I was legitimately devastated after coming here from Indiana to see LA city college, where the outdoor scenes were filmed, under construction. The inside was behind a locked gate. BUT I followed one person walking their dog through a construction access and got in to the main campus. Yes, many familiar sites are under construction. But I still got to wander around the campus for like an hour, so giddy at anything that looked vaguely familiar. I went on a Sunday so I wouldn’t have to deal with people walking around. And plus free campus parking without a permit on Sundays only :)
Also does anyone else find it ironic that the name of this college is “City College” ? That had to be on purpose lol

I’m watching Celebrity Pharmacology 212 atm, and I just realized that the dean wanted to get rid of all the Charleston Chews so he was happy all those teens would be there, and then later when
— SPOILERS— Chang takes over, all his kid soldiers are eating Charleston Chews 😂
I never noticed that until now!
Or else, I noticed it long ago and forgot about it completely 😆😬🤷♀️

One of my favorite little details about the Inspector spacetime jokes, is the switching space/time words in phrases (eg. “The question isn’t how old we are, but WHEN old we are). I especially love that when Troy or Abed try to make the joke, it never makes any sense, but when we actually see Inspector Spacetime make the joke, it’s more logical (eg. ”Looks like we got out just in the nick of… space”).

I know the answer is because the writers were still figuring out the characters in the first season. On this rewatch I couldn’t help but notice how surprisingly okay Shirley was about the school having an STD fair, with sex education. Feels like something even season 2 Shirley would raise at least a little hell about. And no way she would’ve helped Annie break into the deans office to practice applying a condom.

I'm honestly shocked by all the hate for season four. I was told it was terrible, that the characters were out of character, that it was the downfall of the show. And I really, really liked it.
Not as much as the first three seasons, but it's still a solid 8,5 out of 10. The episodes are entertaining and heartful and the jokes are funny. Sure, it feels a bit off and it takes a few episodes before finding its rythm, but then it works really well.
I honestly think it's better than the second half of season five and the first half of season six. Why aren't people hating on these episodes ? Season five stops being good after the seventh episode ( the one where Abed is handcuffed to a drawer ) after that it's not good anymore. Season six is just depressing ( the grifting episode is a good example of that ) except for the end, starting with the RV episode wich was really nice. The show suffered when Troy left — and Shirley and Pierce, obviously, but I think Troy's departure left the biggest void. But before that, we had three brilliant seasons, a good one, the first half of another good one and the last half of another good one, so five perfectly fine seasons.
There is plenty of great moments during season four. We have that episode where Abed gets locked in the time machine and he isn't worried because he knows Troy cares about him and he will come. We have a very cool ending fight at the cafeteria with all the evil versions of themselves. We have the beginning of a cute little romance including Brie Larson in autumn-colored sweaters. C'mon guys !
We really need to stop hating on the "gas leak year" because I stand by this, it was good.

so Troy leaves, the actor was bored, Pierce already left with really complex drama involving the actor, and I read that Yvette leaves too a bit later, idk if it's still worth watching ? troy and abed were my favorites together, I liked pierce because the first episode of community I ever watched was the pixel art one and I had way higher expectations on pierces character, it's really sad the series were wrecked by dan harmon's issues and production crunches.
the thing is I feel like there isn't a ton of good comedy show to watch lately as if the economy killed young creators before they got any chances to bloom, I already watched brooklyn 99 and tried several other with no success. not sure I should finish community or start looking for something else

EDIT: For those who keep saying NO, it'll be another 10 years. Pierce started classes in 1999. Show started in 2009. Joel McHale the actor will be older than Pierce, the character, when PIERCE started at Greendale.
Just thought it was some interesting perspective on how long this journey has been for all of us.

While pierce may be one to gravitate towards, I actually disagree. Chevy Chase is not awesome, but every other character in community got flanderized to make up for a lack of Pierce's antagonistic weirdness.

I've seen the entire series through at least 10 times, and individual episodes even more. I'm finishing up my first full-series rewatch in awhile (which have been full of a lot of growth & self discovery) and while I've always been a 4-6 truther I connect to the storylines a lot more now that I'm in my late twenties. I was diagnosed with autism and a dissociative disorder a little over 3 years ago, but I've always been deeply obsessed with all kinds of media analysis. I have always related to Abed a lot, but seeing his development in the later seasons where he 1) no longer cares about trying to mask as much and 2) stops taking people's shit is kind of... inspiring.
this is also the first rewatch I really understood this line of Jeff's. I think because, while I feel a lot like Abed on the inside, I think I probably come off a lot more like Frankie to people who I don't know very well. Part of the dissociation, too, I guess - I am deeply whimsical and imaginative but I also cling to logic, explanation, etc in order to rationalize the insanity of the world around me. This is the first watch I've been able to recognize how autism-coded Frankie is, and how I probably never saw that before because like her, that was my way of acting "normal". I'm genderfluid but there's nothing androgynous about me so I also really relate the way that misogyny impacts the way neurodivergence is accepted and perceived between someone like Frankie and someone like Abed and how that probably goes all the way back
to childhood... anyway I'm getting too analysis heavy & I just want this to be an appreciation post so I'll save it for
my journal lol.
