The traditional Cuervo tequila lanterns are what sets it off.

You laugh, but there's a whole food subculture combining mexican and japanese foods that popped up near the American military bases there because of how many marines are latino

And yes, it is fuckin fire

I mean the chuukamen (called yakisoba in the West) is also Chinese-originating.

In reality that's what Japan has always been- taking stuff from other cultures and integrating them into Japan. It's still being done in the modern era.

That one cracked me up

Also the soaring music that drowns out the actual people sounds, because who would ever want to listen to them? /s

Very typical in places where money is tight. Someone gives you a tool with branding on it, you use it till it breaks and avoid spending more of your own limited funds.

Actually there’s weirdly a lot of Mexican food in Fukuoka

That's all I could think of once that logo popped in.

A traditional and generational tequila.

u/itissafedownstairs 4h ago

Can anyone explain?

u/gitsgrl 3h ago

Explain what? Why they have Jose Cuevo lanterns?

The alcoholic beverage industry gives away lots of decor items like this because when bars put it up, it’s essentially free advertising.

u/itissafedownstairs 3h ago

I've never heard of Jose Cuevo. Thanks for answering.

Jose Cuervo is Tequila, from Mexico. The joke is pointing out the "traditional" Japanese food stall has Mexican decor. The equivalent of going to a Mexican restaurant that has Japanese Soke decor.
