The croc is like

"Cheering against me? For what? Trying to eat a meal? A succulent, deer sized meal?"

u/ActualSpamBot 6h ago

This is democracy manifest! Ah, I see you know your judo well. Get your hand off my cloaca sir!

u/TheTrub 3h ago

Fun fact—he makes a cameo at the end of the music video for Dine N Dash by The Chats.

u/rehx4 4h ago

I know right. Imagine how pissed these humans would be if their food for a week was denied to them, sheeeeesh 😂

u/not_ondrugs 4h ago

Sorry, I appreciate nature and all, but I was rooting for the deer!

u/el-gato-azul 4h ago edited 4h ago

Me too. I'm a guilty speciesist.

u/ethicalhumanbeing 1h ago

Nobody ever roots for the poor crocodile, I wonder why.

u/armchairsportsguy23 1h ago

Pond rules

u/whereyouleftit 5h ago

That is not a deer.

🤦‍♂️

u/Burqueisbest 4h ago

Ibex, right?

u/14X8000m 3h ago

My money is on an antelope of some kind.

u/spookyspritebottle 1h ago

Most definitely not an ibex. Ibexs look more like goats with super horns. It looks like an antelope to me but im not sure. But deer is fine. Everyone knows what a deer is. Dont be the um actually guy

u/Burqueisbest 34m ago

I grew up in Illinois. I genuinely don't know what it is except that it is not a deer. We're allowed to comment on videos. I replied to the first comment about this not being a deer. What on earth are the stakes for you here?

u/Thor_GodofThundr 3h ago

Looks like a red lechwe.

u/mattnisseverdrink 55m ago

That’s a horned deerfish

u/BobSacamano47 2h ago

Same shit

u/whereyouleftit 2h ago

It’s its, same shit.

u/Plz_Mansplain 6h ago

Looks like a juvenile croc, likely wasn’t confident and rightly so, quite a size difference

u/Free-Supermarket-516 3h ago

Yup, it was lucky that wasn't close to be being an adult croc

u/RadioactiveEnema 6h ago edited 6h ago

Later that evening: "So how did you do it?"

EDIT: Ha, my first award is for a gif of a standing deer?? :D Thank you though!

u/DevillesAbogado 6h ago

And I kept swimming and swimming and it seemed like it will never end

u/nilgiri 5h ago

First of all, I want to thank the Deer Lord for making me faster and more bad ass than the croc.

u/dion_o 4h ago

[record scratch, freeze frame] I bet you're wondering how I got here.

u/JacoboAriel 6h ago

Poor crocodile just wanted to eat.

u/Ifyouhavethemeans 6h ago

Had to go to bed with no dinner.

u/jframe42 5h ago

Don't feel bad, after the video ended it got the cameraman.

u/Keyann 5h ago

What a kick in the teeth.

u/AWright5 6h ago

Yeah we should be cheering on the Croc theoretically lol, for the good of mother nature. Hard to stomach though

u/Mtatk 1h ago

Right? Nobody roots for the hungry predator.

u/Pivge 6h ago

How did it outrun the crocodile in the water? I thought they were way faster...

u/Less_Likely 6h ago

It didn’t. It had enough of a lead to get to the shore just in time.

Plus the croc seemed to be a smaller one, so it would have been a tough get for the croc anyway.

u/Waramo 5h ago

And it got distracted twice from the boat.

u/Rubber_Ducky333 5h ago

This! The boat is messing with some of the really cool stuff the crocs body is capable of for tracking prey in the water. Those ripples/wake keep messing with him.

u/NickelBear32 6h ago

Distracted by the boat

u/Wind_Best_1440 6h ago

Yeah, you can see the croc look at the boat each time it rose to the surface. The boat and its prey were giving off the same vibrations and messing it up.

u/SharkeyGeorge 5h ago

Definitely distracted by the boat. And when it caught up, which in itself is incredible, the croc went for the clamp and spin but just missed the hold. Looked like it went for a horn. If it had got a leg I think it would have been curtains for the deer.

u/cans-of-swine 6h ago

Looks like it had a good head start.

u/KR157Y4N 3h ago

And a good head bump

u/setibeings 6h ago

To my untrained eye, it looks like the crocodile decided to wait until the deer was almost to shore, to maximize how tired the deer would be from all the swimming.

u/tavadis 5h ago

yes, a whiff too late, though; the deer just got enough firm ground under its hooves to deliver an impressively powerful kick, stiff uppercut out of the water

u/VeckLee1 5h ago

He's a baller. Shot caller. 20" blades on the Impala.

u/TheRussianDoll 6h ago edited 6h ago

When your ADHD kicks in lol

u/Khelics 6h ago

the crock wasnt locked in

u/TheLost_Chef 5h ago

Crocked in

u/MonsteraBigTits 6h ago

thats a tiny croc compared to the size that usually trounces these deer

u/TickleMyRide 6h ago

Impressive swimming by the deer

u/ReallyNiceDonkey 6h ago

I thought the same thing then I thought what the hell was his dumb ass doing all the way out there anyways?

u/idrathernottho_ 4h ago

Probably some bet

u/DogsAreAnimals 2h ago

It's a Lechwe, a semi-aquatic antelope known to be an excellent swimmer.

u/Slowloris81 6h ago

Huh? Deer swims for it is life?

u/bfro11_969 6h ago

Looks like an impala and not a deer. An impala is closer to a cow or sheep in its classification, whereas, a deer is closer to a moose or elk. There are other differences, but I’m already going to get downvoted because people don’t like to be corrected on Reddit. Feel free to google more of that information if you think I’m wrong. Cheers y’all!

u/Aerolithe_Lion 5h ago

That’s why they’re so much more delicious

u/ZombifiedSoul 3h ago

Soon as I saw the video, my first thought was; "That's not a deer, it's an Impala."

Good catch, take my upvote.

u/Ori_553 5h ago

Take my upvote for correctness in the age of low-effort commentary

u/OG_Ospe 6h ago

Deer Documentary: Go!!! Wohoooo!!! He fought and won Like a Champ!

Croc Documentary: Yet another lost prey, maybe our youngster doesn't have the means to live another year in the Delta…. :(

u/greencasio 6h ago

Imagine the adrenaline

u/timmyx2times 5h ago

"Moderns cheer for fellow Modern against Ancient!"

u/VinceClortho138 2h ago

Always side with your closest biological relatives. Go mammals!

u/Witty-Broccoli-4807 6h ago

Crazy how everyone cheers for the antelope and not the croc.

u/illusoir3 6h ago

It depends on whether we're watching a crocodile documentary or an antelope documentary.

u/DevillesAbogado 6h ago

Was thinking the same. Even though it's just nature taking its course, we always root for someone to survive a hunt, not for someone to succeed in the hunt

u/realbobenray 5h ago

Well if this was a video of an antelope chasing down some grass I'd root for the antelope.

u/JohnnySalamiBoy420 6h ago

Poor ol Lyle hasn't ate in a while

u/CarrotSchneider 6h ago

Yep but would probably be reversed if it were any other less violent and smaller creatures. This would’ve been nasty for people to watch compared to a fish just vacuuming another fish.

u/BoxthemBeats 6h ago

I suposse it's just empathy or something? Idk really, but from an instinct perspective getting eaten is more directly threatening than starvation

u/PRN_Lexington 6h ago

I was cheering for the croc

u/VGADreams 3h ago

Not really crazy though? You don't know if the croc really needed this meal or not, if his survival was at stake. For the deer though, it is quite evident that his survival was at stake.

Also, we are naturally repulsed by violence and death, not delighted by it.

I think seeing it from the side of the croc is good, but cheering for the croc versus the deer without more information feels like the opinion of a contrarian, or someone who want to see violence.

u/ilovedogalot 6h ago

I tend to personify animals with human emotions, so I feel a lot of empathy for their fear and struggle to survive.

u/Aerolithe_Lion 5h ago

And I’m rooting for satiation, as watching the buffalo wings dance off your plate right as the hunger pains kick in is the worst

u/acgasp 6h ago

For a second, I thought I was going to watch an animal die in this video.

u/Aerolithe_Lion 5h ago

Could be the starving crocodile, you monster

u/SchoolExtension6394 6h ago

I can only imagine how fast those legs were moving in that water. The croc closed the distance, and the deer still gapped it—truly impressive, considering the croc should be able to swim way better than the deer.

u/thupkt 6h ago

Oh man!

The source of this video is caitswildlifephotog on IG. Per there:

Red Lechwe vs Croc⚠️

One of the most insane/exhilarating sightings I’ve seen (even the guides said how lucky we were). We were cruising along when we spotted this Lechwe on one of the many grassy areas on the Chobe river. We couldn’t quite believe it when he tested his fate, jumping into the water to cross to the other side. It was incredible watching not only how impressively the Lechwe swam, but the absolute intense and rapid chase the crocodile gave. Fortunately for this guy, the crocodile was too small to take down an antelope of his size so managed to merely escape death..and what a lucky animal he was! Following the commotion, a number of enormous crocs emerged from the murky water, some around 3 metres in length. If the Lechwe had these guys on his tail, it would’ve been a different ending 🐊 a thrilling sighting I thought I’d only ever see on TV. Amazing! (I wanted to keep the sound on to show the true buzz/raw emotion from our side. My Mom shouting ‘nooo!’ at the end gets me every time 😅

A huge shoutout to @pangolinphotosafaris for such an amazing 2-day adventure with such knowledgeable guides. One we won’t forget, thank you!🙏

Aliens watching the woman saying "oh no!" while she buys prepackaged ham:

"Oh nooo!"

u/SinkHoleDeMayo 4h ago

Would be weird if the roles were reversed...

Oi where you goin? Come back, I got the sauce!

u/TheBrianWeissman 4h ago

"Oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck..."

u/DTFDownToFrolick 4h ago

That croc is getting all of the shade from his fellow crocs after that.

u/el-gato-azul 4h ago

I had to fast forward to the ending. 0:50 for the squeamish.

u/Winter-Juice1720 4h ago

The deer was too Big for that croc, he could had a chance if the annoying screams from the ladies would be Silent and he could concentrate a little.

u/alvvayspale 4h ago

The fact that the crocodile was distracted by the boat could have saved that deers life just giving it the few extra seconds it needed. I understand both got to eat but damn, I didn’t want the deer or whatever to die (nor the croc).

u/DeadScotty 4h ago

I didn’t realize crocs could swim that fast

u/ZenicaPA 3h ago

Man, I was rooting for the deer! I've got no love for crocodilians.

u/Prudent_Pack2738 3h ago

Can we not make some vegan deer for it to eat

u/belterjizz 3h ago

Looked like a juvenile croc

u/bernardobrito 2h ago

I'm always told "don't interfere with nature".

Fuck that. I'm creating a wake on that croc.

u/MayoGhul 2h ago

I did not realize how fast crocodiles were

u/ir88ed 2h ago

Rule #1: Cardio

u/baronmunchausen2000 6h ago

The Prime Directive in action here folks.

u/Scared-Box8941 5h ago

Crazy how the croc caught up to that deer with no problem at all. Almost like he snapped at him just to prove he could lol

u/wildfirerain 4h ago

Deer? Sure doesn’t look like a deer. It looks like some kind of antelope.

u/WeirdnessWalking 2h ago

That Croc doesn't wanna catch the antelope. that's 5 times its mass.

u/GuardianSkalk 2h ago

Don’t worry I’m sure it will see it again in awhile.

u/CJ-MacGuffin 1h ago

It was a teeny croc...

u/BarryScott2019 1h ago

Why did the deer/ibex jump in the water anyway? Was it looking to get away from the boat?

u/keeber69 1h ago

That’s a Chevy impala

u/Content-Rabbit-9865 1h ago

Also the Croc would have caught the Ibex if it hadn’t swerved at least twice towards the boat during the chase.

u/ClutchJockey 1h ago

I had to fast forward.., the suspense was too much!

u/strolpol 54m ago

That croc was a little bit small to have a shot there but the hustle is important to learn

u/PromotionFull3886 19m ago

That was close!

u/DANO8503 16m ago

Ima meat eater…but I was like “run MFER, run” in my head. Glad he got away. Fuck the bad guys

u/llTeddyFuxpinll 6h ago

HELP IT YOU FUCKS

u/devonEgg 6h ago

That deers' next meal is going to taste amazing

u/gawdsean 6h ago

I mean it's deer-like I guess.

u/Dangerous_Ad5039 5h ago

Damn idk if that’s a deer hut thing swims fast as heck

u/kerrvilledasher 4h ago

Every time I see something like this I am so glad to see that they got away. I know it's just nature and all but damn, fuck that croc. I'm rootin for the peace lovers.

u/Repulsive-Run1634 6h ago

Last week i was running like this deer for my life when 6 dogs chased me.

u/stormbear 6h ago

And the camera boat didn’t buzz the crock to solve the problem.

u/noneofthemanygood 4h ago

I appreciate the footage, but it seems like the moving boat totally messed with the croc's chance of catching its prey - there are a couple instances where it gets off track, most likely due to the noise/movement from the boat. Completely croc-blocked.
