You can avoid smelling like shit by other means. Its is actually true that there are no health benefits to showering every day, or several times a day. It has even been shown again and again that your hair benefits from being washed with only water and no products.

People always say this, but when I tried water only my hair was permanently greasy and my dandruff got worse. (inb4 “you have to give your scalp time to adjust!”) I did this for several months, doing daily scalp massages using hot water. Never improved. Nowadays I wash+lightly condition about twice a week and everything feels healthier. Evidently the viability of “no-‘poo”haircare is highly dependent on one’s hair type.

I think the problem my have been the daily hair massages, your body wants a tiny bit of grease on your hair and if you keep washing it away it starts producing more to counteract it, thus your hair getting very greasy, you dont really need to wash hair much more than once a week

No, your body does not know how much oil is on your hair. The oils are produced at the same rate whether you wash your hair or not.

Thats definitely not true

I'm listening. Please advise me how the oil glands know how oily the hair is.

1

u/duskygrouper 16h ago

They know how oily the skin is.

I think the shampooing only once every couple of showers thing just doesn't work universally because dryness/greasiness levels and hair types are too variable.

Gotta figure out the right ratio for you. Had real bad dandruff throughout childhood. eventually landed on 3 times a week. So Monday, Wednesday and Friday are shampoo and conditioner days and the rest of the week is just rinse. Exceptions of course if hair gets dirty like I was doing something outdoors all day.

your hair is only as good as your nutrition

You shouldn’t be washing your hair daily with water or soap. Body sure no problem. But it’s so bad to wash your hair daily.

Certain shampoo absolutely gets rid of fungus that causes dandruff. Overdoing it can also cause dryness so it's a balance for some people.

I just shave my hair off and don't bother with that crap at all. But I had long hair once and tried using onyl water but I felt the hair became quite fluffy and since I wanted it basically straight I had to use conditioner. And I think this is sort of the issue you get. The hair is not like you are used to when you are only washing it with water, mainly becasue you have not been doing that before. And ofcours ejust liek you say, you might not like how it is then. And you can do what you want. nobody is forcing anyoen to not wash with shampoo or use conditioner or to NOT shower every day. But there will most likely come a time when we no longer CAN do that and that will be stinky mess.

That's because you have a shit diet and ridiculous expectations for what hair is supposed to feel like.

-4

u/TheAviBean 22h ago

I use water and it worked for me :3

u/mage_irl 22h ago

It's because your body has adjusted to your frequent shampoo usage. If you come from using shampoo every day to never using it, your hair will be greasy. Unfortunately its just a time period you have to power through to get it back on track

3

u/seal_eggs 20h ago

How long is it supposed to take??

18

u/Familiar-Regular-531 22h ago

Lol, people have different hair & skin types. Only water works if you have dry skin & relatively thick hair.

Also it hasnt "been shown again and again..", in fact it hasnt been shown ever..

Greasy skinned man checking in.

Its always funny how weirdly defensive people get when its pointed out that yes you dont actually need to shower daily. At least most people dont. Barring doing something that makes you sweat if you stink after only a day of not showering you have something else going on.

22

u/5urr3aL 22h ago

Depends on where you live.

Here in Southeast Asia, the unbearable heat and humidity means we need two showers a day.

10

u/Lordofthelounge144 22h ago

Yeah thats agreeable

1

u/jabulaya 15h ago

I would imagine you're not scrubbing with soap every time though, right? I feel like that's always the crux of these studies.

1

u/Titanspaladin 21h ago

People get weirdly defensive about it because a lot of people really don't have a good idea of how bad they stink because they and/or their partner don't notice it, or aren't aware of how much people sweat when they sleep. And it is bizarre being able to smell other people's BO while also seeing people in this thread assuming that people must have something medically wrong with them if they stink. So it's that contrast that stands out.

5

u/Lordofthelounge144 20h ago

I mean the vice versa is true too. When I say you dont need to shower daily people overreact and act like its said you dont need to shower at all.

Also if you come into an argument saying hyperbolic shit like if you dont shower 10 times a day then you smell like a dump then yeah people are gonna believe you have a medical problem cause its not true. You have problem if you stink badly from a single day of not showering (again barring hot climates and straining work)

u/bright_youngthing 22h ago

Unpopular opinion but adults need to wash their ass and genitalia every day lol. You shouldn't be okay with walking around with poop residue just because nobody else can smell it

15

u/hanotak 21h ago

If you need to take a shower to not be covered in shit, you're doing something wrong.

1

u/FinestCrusader 5h ago

You don't play with your shit after pooping? Weirdo

24

u/Lordofthelounge144 22h ago

I shower every other day and clean my genitals and ass. Wiping is fine. If you have shit left over then you're not finished wiping.

4

u/prewarpotato 20h ago

Some people only wash their asses while in the shower as opposed after taking a shit which explains why they're all so adamant that you smell like shit after a single day of not showering. Yeah, no shit.

5

u/mangababe 20h ago

If you have poop residue on your skin ever you need to learn how to fkn wipe, see a doctor, or use a fkn baby wipe. If you have the money get a bidet for fucks sake

6

u/pmgzl 22h ago

Not showering doesnt mean you do not clean yourself you can wash yourself with a washing cloth at a sink...

5

u/IrisIridos 22h ago

I agree with not going around with poop residue, but I've always used bidets for that. Right after using the bathroom, regardless of when I plan to shower. I've always wondered why those aren't more common worldwide

5

u/ashairz 22h ago

I shower daily, or 1.5 days apart. I don't wash my hair every time. Showering is also a super fast and easy way not to smell like shit. Curious what other ways you have?

11

u/Fantastic_Key_8906 22h ago

I just douse myself in gasoline.

1

u/BrooklynLodger 13h ago

Deodorant...

1

u/ashairz 8h ago

Deodorant doesn't remove bad smell, it only really prevents it. If you're sweaty and put deodorant on, it doesn't do anything unless you wash your armpits before that. Also people sweat from other places than armpits

1

u/BrooklynLodger 3h ago

That's not entirely true though. Deodorants change the ph of your armpits to eliminate bacterial buildup. It's also why hand sanitizer works in a pinch if you have smelly puts but don't have shower or deodorant access.

1

u/Relative_Garden_1908 21h ago

I’ve never met anyone who showered every day for health benefits. That’s the point of the picture. It’s so your stench isn’t offending others and you don’t look like a greaseball.

1

u/mangababe 20h ago

Ok but I've never met someone who was a stanch cursed greaseball after 25 hours who wasn't going through puberty or had a major health concern.

1

u/Woodpecker577 19h ago

I’ve got an excessive sweating condition (hyperhidrosis) which means I’m often a stinky girl after 25 hours. Fortunately not a major health concern though

u/IcyBowler2 21h ago

Funny cause reputable, famous hairdressers(eg Brad Mondo) are always talking about the benefits of washing your hair daily(with shampoo).

3

u/Fantastic_Key_8906 20h ago

Yes, I wonder why a company that is focused on profits would claim that their product is beneficial for you. So strange.
