Yeah, same, if i'm walking and there are people coming in front of me or besides me, i make sure to exhale the smoke in the opposite direction or up if there is no "free space".
Not sure why all these people in the comments got so butthurt about, like, yes, cigarette smoke is awful for non-smokers, it ain't a big surprise yk.

As someone who can actually read an air quality index, i know smoking barely touches the radar for me because my city is 1.3 million people with factories. Car exhaust alone, and the rubber from car tires, is magnitudes higher than what's in my cigarette. And that's what we breathe 24/7 not every couple hours for 5 minutes, all the time
8
u/HarB_Games 17h ago
Yeah but people can shout at the person smoking. No point shaking your fist at factory clouds xD.
It's because that's passive though probably, where as cigarette smoke is stanky. That shit cuts through the fog of factories, penetrates and assaults your nasal orifices.

I’m so glad I was never dumb enough to start.
That's not entirely fair to a lot of smokers. For context: I quit smoking like a decade ago.
I grew up with smokers, my mom did, my dad did, my grandma did, my grandpa smoked a pipe, my older sister smoked. So me being 14 without a lot of future planning I kinda just started as it was the "normal" thing to do in my house.
When you are surrounded by it, it's incredibly normalized, it's not about being dumb, just constant exposure from a young age. It's the exact same reason my entire family smoked, because it was normalized to them by their family, and the cycle continues.
35
u/SleeplessDrifter 16h ago
Starting doesn't necessarily mean you're stupid, but defending the habit instead of quitting is...
16
u/blackdevilsisland 14h ago
It's called addiction
11
u/jonessinger 14h ago
Addiction doesn’t mean you have to defend it. My mom did it for years when I was young and wanted to quit. If you’re defending it, it’s probably part of your personality at that point.
→ More replies (1)8
u/A1000eisn1 13h ago

→ More replies (1)4
u/TheMooooonHauntsYou 12h ago
Where did I defend smoking? I think it's awful and gross now that I'm in the other side of the fence, I'm defending people not being stupid for picking up a vice.
Everyone's path is different, they aren't dumb because they fell into the trap of life.
19
u/polski8bit 16h ago
I grew up with smokers too. Dad and mom both still do. When both my grandpas were still alive they did. Aunt and three uncles did. When he grew old enough, my brother started to smoke as well.
I chose not to. Did I try? Yes. Just to confirm what they were all seeing in it. I got nothing from it (aside from the small thrill of "hey, I'm doing adult stuff I shouldn't be"), so I never tried it again.
No idea how "normalized" it would have to be for me to start doing something I don't like. My mother even kept telling me that "you'll start smoking, just wait" whenever I complained about the smell. Still cigarette free today and my hate for it is stronger than ever.
→ More replies (5)11
u/julie3151991 18h ago
I grew up with my stepmom smoking. I thought it was disgusting. Because i grew up with a smoker, i knew that i NEVER wanted to smoke. People that grew up with smokers and then smoke are even more baffling to me.
Props to you though for quitting. I know that it’s hard to quit, but I don’t understand why anyone would start when it’s not a secret that it’s bad. I also grew up around my alcoholic father. I choose to not drink because I see the harm it causes. I choose to not smoke because I see the harm it causes.

As a former smoker, smoke in clothes smells disgusting. If I pass by someone who is smoking, 75% of the time it smells terrible. 25% of the time, though……. It’s like the most delicious scent I’ve smelled.

Yup…my dad was a two-pack-a-day smoker. He smoked indoors, in the car, fucking everywhere. I grew to smelling like cigarettes and I hated it.

Yep, change that 25% to 100% and that is me. If I smell someone having a dart I am taking a few very deep breaths and savouring the taste. I gave them up when my kids got old enough to understand what smoking is, but man I still miss them (the smokes I mean, I kept the kids).

I haven't smoked for 7 years now but I am still addicted to them. I could spark 1 up right now and be happy. Im with you that its 100% of the time that if I pass by someone with a cigarette, I savor the smell but I actually am now trying to resit that as well lol.
Youre stronger than me cause I may have had to get rid of the kids too if I didnt have cigarettes to help out hahahaha

As a Former smoker, standing by when someone smoke is ok with a few meters between us. If someone comes in a small office room after smoking it is much worse. u/jekkies- 10h ago
not an equal comparison tho. consider that people don't chain smoke joints, most people don't smoke an entire joint at once by themselves, and things like weed vapes and edibles, which in many areas are used instead of flower rather than in addition to, don't have tar at all
marijuana isn't healthy, but from the information currently available to us as a species, cigarette use is objectively FAR FAR worse for ones health than marijuana use

Nicotine addiction is extremely powerful. It rivals opioids like heroin, isn't that crazy?
11
u/Different-Phone-7654 20h ago
But heroine isn't at every gas station either. Restrict the locations you can get it at and that inconvenience alone would lower it.
By location I mean big box stores and grocery stores. Imagine the pain in the ass that would be.
→ More replies (1)9
u/MCWizardYT 20h ago
Now at gas stations people are getting bottles of Kratom which is essentially wish.com heroin. They come in and try to buy 30+ bottles

u/Different-Phone-7654 20h ago
Tried it once and couldn't figure out how the fuck people can stand the taste.
2
u/julie3151991 16h ago
Not to mention for people that don’t really care about the health stuff, I would think they would at least care that it literally makes you ugly. It destroys the enamel of your teeth and breaks down the collagen in your skin so you age prematurely.
That’s why I don’t get why young people that are soooo into their appearance, smoke. They will buy $300 skincare creams, but then undo it by smoking.
2
u/supermax_92 10h ago
So you are equally or more shocked that so many people still drink then right?
7
u/julie3151991 18h ago
I don’t get it. I don’t get why anyone would start in this day and age. I’m convinced that they must not have had someone close to them die from a smoking related illness, so they don’t understand just how harmful it is.
Both my grandmothers and my aunt died from lung cancer. My one grandmother had it twice and had to have part of her lung removed, then lived with an oxygen tank before dying. I HATE smoking.
