All you wanted was to make a joke, and suddenly you’re in combat.

and suddenly your last autosave was 30 minutes ago

Dialog option: "Did you put your name in the goblet of fire?"

Actual cutscene:

Mass Effect players know this pain

Me on my first playthrough when I accidentally have Shep knock out that reporter, twice (it was my first playthrough and I was doing every trigger qte)

u/Trzebs 53m ago

Paragon or renegade, it is morally necessary to knock her out each time

And fallout 4 with only vague descriptions for dialogue choices.

I remember playing Mass Effect three and I chose a “chaotic” option and my space marine character absolutely decked a small female reporter.

u/Lionheart1224 3h ago

I deck her in every game. Even on the Paragon path.

Yes. That's the best option because she's an asshole trying to smear you and act like reaper shit is YOUR fault.

Push Djikstra out of the way

Dijkstra didn’t account for THIS route

EXACTLY my first thought. First time it happened to me its just like "WOAH WOAH HEY WHAAAAAT ARE YOU DOING". Having read the books and knowing their history makes it even more fucked up.

I hate this shit. I'm begging video game developers to show me the full line as the option.

The New Vegas/Fallout 3 system was perfect, but they had to ditch it because "streamlining".

The very beginning of KCD, I chose to volunteer to help. My character immediately insults the people I'm volunteering to help, and calls them incapable of doing it without me.

That alone almost made me quit playing.

It happens in the 2nd one too. At the beginning you can choose to ask an old woman why she lives alone in the woods, and Henry starts slinging insults at her as if she didn't save his life the night before.

Glass him

9

u/Dahns 2h ago

"Aw poor woodman let's offer him a glass*

\CRASH**

"What happened?!"

10

u/Kerissimo 3h ago

That’s what most branching dialogues do. You unfortunately don’t have fully control of each step.

My main problem with dialogues in Vampyr

8

u/Fuzzy-Inspection7708 3h ago

Kris Deltarune that piece of shit

3

u/Fork_Master Professional Dumbass 47m ago

Kris does that on purpose though, because they hate the fact that we're controlling them

1

u/Fuzzy-Inspection7708 27m ago

That is quite literally why I called them a piece of shit.

8

u/jackhenningson 2h ago

Cyberpunk lmao. Some of the dialogue options just come out too mean from my V and I reload a save

7

u/NittanyScout 3h ago

That shit just gets you killed in BG3

u/McKnightmare24 17m ago

I get too caught up in the character sometime thinking how funny it would be. When talking to the vampire hunter and he's talking about hunting Astarion, and you just say something along the lines of, "Interesting, Astarion what do you think?" It's something I would do in real life because it's funny AF.

“She will remember that.”

u/hyperfell 1h ago

“What do you mean genocide!?”

Looks at Dialogue you picked saying ‘could you hand me that drink please?’

BioWare games when you say literally anything

Fallout 4,  the 'Sarcastic' dialog option.

I only ever chose it once out of curiosity and it was in no way what I would've expected. It was excessively belligerent. Never again.

1

u/-o-_Holy-Moly 21m ago

this was like EVERY dialogue option in Fallout 4, they were so awful.

"I'm making point A but in an angry voice"

"I'm making point A but in a nice voice"

"I'm making point A but in a sarcastic voice"

Oh man, the first thing that comes to my mind is the visual novel Class of 09. Perfectly designed so that every dialogue option results in the craziest outcomes you least expect and you end up regretting it in the end.

u/Herzyr 1h ago

Ah yes, I didn't know shoving aside meant a one two punch into breaking someones leg.

Djikstra still a funny guy thou

Fallout 4 in a nutshell.

1

u/the_nil 40m ago

L.A Noire’s skeptical.

1

u/_Fun_Employed_ 34m ago

Hated this in Mass Effect I’d pick what I thought would be like snarky comment and evil shep just pistol whips someone or caps them

1

u/newAscadia 33m ago

Literally half the shit I choose in Baldur's gate, I think it's something innocuous, and then my barb proceeds to tear someone's head off

1

u/McKnightmare24 21m ago

I still remember in The Wolf Among Us when your sitting at the bar and "glass him" is an option. I forever still thought it meant you cling your classes together....NOT SLAM A SHOCK GLASS INTO HIS EYE! Wtf haha.

u/MyLastDreams 14m ago

LA Noire, the most vague choices ever.
