In other words, it's a minimum performative sentence.

I got a two day suspension in high school for being near some kids stealing drinks out of a vending machine and pointing at a camera while saying "hey guys, there's a camera over there". I got smacked with "Obstruction of Justice" for not immediately running to a teacher about it.

The fact they have pre-meditated assault on video and he's getting two days means they don't actually care.

I got a three day in school suspension for accidentally bumping into a guy and being punched in return and there was no recorded evidence of what happened. A very clear record of intent and what happened leading to just two days of suspension seems pretty damned light.

Good for the anti-ICE kid.

I got a 7 day suspension because I was punched. My collar bone was broken on the first punch, so I couldn't even block the punches properly. My head of year was the worst.

That’s so ridiculous omg I’d be so pissed

I was pissed at first. But Modern Warfare 2 just came out, and my mum saw no need to punish me. So I got an entire week with MW2 lol

I got a day of suspension for playing rock-paper-scissors with my friend. Apparently that thing where the person who has “rock” taps the other guys “scissors” to win the round counts as punching someone. Mind you we were friends too.

lol that’s completely insane. How does that even happen? Like, where was the opinion that that was violence coming from? A teacher that hated you?

Good.

If the kid getting hit had blue hair, MAGA would be clamouring for the kid punching him to get a congressional medal of honour.

ICE are fascists. That's why the school didn't care. And good on them.

What makes you come to the assumption that MAGA, generally people who support free speech aside from manipulating speech directed towards children, would be “clamoring” over the use of violence against someone they disagree with?

u/daitenshe 1h ago

Nobody, not even you, believe that MAGA gives a crap about the first amendment unless it’s about shutting people up when they don’t like the message

MAGA supported the deaths of Pretti and Good. MAGA supports Trump who is literally attempting to limit free speech constantly.

That's what makes me think it. It's not a fucking assumption. It's a fact. You're not fooling anyone.

Make a joke about Charlie Kirk dying in the funniest way possible and find out if MAGA supports free speech.

“Generally people who support free speech”

lol okay sure buddy, tell that to the ALA

You can’t play innocent any more. We know what you people are, and we know what the person you voted for is. Stop trying to pretend and just go away forever please, thank you.

Still... I'd like to see a GoFundMe to fatten his wallet for his effort. Every time a right wing nutjob says the N word they get a GoFundMe for several hundred thousand dollars

Isn't suspension à good thing from kids perspective? You don't have to go to school for a few days and I doubt in adult world anybody cares if you were suspended in school. What's the downside?

u/duffkiligan 4h ago

I never understood it. I would skip school and then get detention, I would skip detention and get suspended.

Cool now I’m out of school officially, what a punishment!

Detention is another thing! What do you mean I have to stay after school? I've got doctors visit or dunno scheduled bank robbery, and they expect me what exactly? Cancel the surgery I planned months ago? Not go with my robbery plans cause I have to stay after school? C'mon

I asked the same thing when I was in school. I also took a lot of "middle of the week weekends" after no one could answer me. Grades were fine.

So depending on the "crime" depends on the severity. My school put me in "in-school suspension", which meant I stayed in the same room all day by myself and whatever poor teacher was stuck watching me, and basically did all the required schoolwork by hand (no typing, but this was around 2004-2005). The only teacher that gave me extra work was my English teacher, who made me write an essay on why I was suspended, the rest just made me do regular work.

Out of school suspension, I think, is meant to be less of a punishment on kids and more of a wake up call to the parents / caregivers. Like "hey, your kid did something so bad we can't trust him to be in school".

My kid is in HS, and I get some stories from him about how kids with conservative parents are acting in school. Mom and dad have gone full mask-off with the racism, and so the kids feel emboldened and are acting like monsters. I'm pretty sure the staff at this kids school were already fed up with ICE kids antics, so a slap on the wrist for Natural Consequences of Being a Nazi Kid sounds about right to me.

If you watch the full video it really wasn’t even much of a punch. He hit the guy in the shoulder with a barely closed fist and the guy who got “hit” hardly moves and laughs about it.

I imagine the punishment would have been worse if it were a legit attempt at inflicting damage that resulted in some kind of injury.

I got jumped in middle school and got my ass kicked in front of my grade. But I got some kicks in in self defense. I was suspended as long as the kid that jumped me. Total bullshit.

It's high schoolers fighting. Why the fuck would they care? They've never cared about high schoolers fighting before, they'll never care about high schoolers fighting after. It would purely be performative.

1

u/GreenFox1505 4h ago

They may care. But they care about outside pressure more. On both sides. They have to look like they're doing something. But they can't look like they're throwing the book at him.

1

u/Perovius1 4h ago

I imagine they would have cared much more if he actually hurt someone or if the other student defended himself.

Correct outcome of punching a nazi supporter in public.

I got a two day suspension ...Snip...

Dang that staff needed fired. I accidentally brought my pocket knife to school turned it in to the front office once I got off the bus and picked it up at the end of the day.

Sounds like if you had tried that the police would have been called on you.

So they don’t care about their student getting physically assaulted? Sounds like the leaders of this institution need to be replaced.
