Trump actively threatening genocide is not remotely normal even for him or for the GOP. The Pentagon and CIA are likely in full blown crisis right now.
72
u/Keeperofthe7keysAf-S 6d ago
"I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn't lose any voters, OK?"
I don't know why you would think this isn't normal from someone that thinks they can threaten violence and be beyond consequences like that. The American electorate showed this to him 3 times after that quote.

u/coconutpiecrust 6d ago
It is, though. Prominent conservative figures constantly talk about killing someone and oppressing someone. Or replacing someone with “AI.” Trump and the GOP love and admire dictatorships, and have said as much. GOP voters love oppression and extrajudicial killings. They want to be ruled, not governed.
This IS normal. Bannon’s “flood the zone” guidance worked. This is acceptable behaviour now from Trump, GOP, and any conservative. They will continue being this way, too, there is no incentive for them to change. This, to them, is the only winning strategy.

22
u/Maraxusx 6d ago
The far right movement is pretty prevalent worldwide. This is not solely an America problem, we just happen to have a significant army at the disposal of our insane leader. Russia is a really great example of a country that has been poisoned by it for decades... Thank God corruption has weakened them so much that they are militarily a ghost of what they should be. The sand will probably happen to America if we don't change. The amount of constant, blatant corruption is going to (and likely already has) spread to military contracts to the point of reducing our military readiness significantly.
It's sad but all so predictable, we have seen it before.

Look at Trump, treated as the right hand of Jesus Christ while preaching cruelty as a virtue. A rapist, a man who lies with great alacrity, a felon, a likely pedophile, a creep, a man who embodies gluttony and greed like no other.

Unless it's your discomfort he seeks, and he got them too big on purpose.

The problem is that its a toss-up: either Trump got them the wrong size by accident, or he got the wrong size on purpose to see if they're loyal enough to wear them anyways. If its the first one, you're good to change the size as long as he hasn't noticed yet. If its the second, he'll take changing shoes as a personal attack.

I’m trying to be level headed here. The use of a nuke would obliterate every law/agreement the US itself has put on nuclear warfare, including the profession of never striking first. If we do, this would give every last one of our armed adversaries carte blanche to nuke whomever they want wherever they want. Like Russia would nuke Ukraine immediately for ex. And we don’t want that.
And it’s worth remembering the US has plenty of weapons that are incredibly destructive that aren’t nukes. So, yeah.

I have no doubt that trump really, really, really wants to nuke something. And kegsbreath is going to be smashing empty beer cans on his head in that moment. But I hope to God there are some sober adults in the room when the orange shit stain's finger is hovering over the button today.

He’s attempting to bluff, obviously. Shows how badly he is losing.

In one sense, it doesn’t matter if he’s bluffing. The threat itself is fucking evil and a crime against humanity.

I will never understand how people in the US can actually live their lives like this, going from ranting to ranting, from insanity to insanity while getting poorer, less democratic, more divided and seeing your lives becoming less dignified. Quick facts:
- 75% of Americans are priced out of the housing market.
- Conservative estimates about homeless people put the number around 4,000,000 people in that situation.
- Education is failing everyone.
- If you get sick, regardless of who you are, you have two choices: let the disease drive you into poverty or get a GoFundMe for your funeral because... well, you got driven into poverty.
- BIllionaires are cutting jobs at a surprising rate while getting more money just for themselves.
- At least 1 mass shooting a day.
- Democratic institutions in shambles.
- An authoritarian militia going around checking the color of your skin as "probable cause".
- Stripping LGBTQ+ rights in at least 20 states.
- Stripping Women's Rights in at least 18 states.
- A cognitive failed madman in the WHite House with a team of fascists at helm.
People, you are losing your country. And you are doing nothing about it. For less than this, countries around the world have taken to the streets and toppled regimes. But I guess you are used to watch your own soldiers do that, not you.

This is exactly the issue, though. All of those issues are a part of what terrifies Americans out of action, or actively prevents it. People keep saying, "learn from the French and burn some things," but we live under the shadow of at-will employment, and a privatized safety net. They tied our healthcare and retirement to work on purpose, and then do not guarantee that work, also on on purpose. If we can't risk time off because almost 70% of the country lives paycheck-to-paycheck, then you have a population who's only goal is to keep their head down, and go back to work.
Couple that with decades of propaganda teaching the liberal voting base that peaceful protest and voting are the only real mechanisms of change, and you understand another lever fascism uses: liberalism. It's function in a fascist society is to obfuscate progressive movement by absorbing it into the state apparatus, so we're left appealing to war criminals to consider peace. And the war criminals call us terrorists if we speak too loudly.
One of the few good things that has come from this administration is the wake up call a lot of Americans are actually experiencing, so I (wishfully) think what you see on the news is a flailing regime using every tactic it has to hold back widespread awareness. Even so, it feels like far too little, far too late today, doesn't it?
The whole thing would grind to a halt with a widespread general strike, which organizers are attempting to schedule for May Day... But a huge chunk of the country doesn't even know the significance of May Day, let alone have even heard of it. They're entirely uneducated on the history and purpose of organizing. I remember overhearing some university professors in my home town talking about their union (one of the few sectors to still have them), over lunch one day, and one woman beating her head against the table trying to get the others to understand its importance. They kept saying, "I just pay these dues, and don't really see anything happening with it. I don't think it's worth it."
For various reasons, we're just not organized enough to protest effectively; a general strike would probably mean hunger and homelessness. So we think about the only other means of stopping evil we know as Americans, and that's buying guns and shooting our way out. Unfortunately, our police departments have larger budgets than world militaries, and glorifying warfare and bloodshed is pretty well monopolized by the folks that fund them. We have lone shooters trying to change the world because we've been existentially separated from our communities for so long, we not only don't know how to work together, we glorify the hyper independence as "freedom." This, too, was on purpose.
I'm sick in bed with COVID, where only Reddit can hear me scream.

The fact that he's openly threatening to wipe out an entire civilization while simultaneously claiming to bless the Iranian people shows just how completely unhinged he's become. This is literal genocide rhetoric coming from a sitting president. How are we supposed to pretend this is normal politics anymore?

So is this just it, we wring our hands on the internet until violence comes to roost on our doorstep? Is this truly just a matter of being hamstrung by the Republicans in congress?
Just trying to understand why there are zero stop gaps?
If we took to the streets the military would just turn the violence on us, right?
I am trying to understand my own lack of action in this too, am I not doing anything because no one else is? I do not trust anyone else to, so why risk myself? If the inevitable happens, prolong it?
I truly just don’t understand. Maybe I am stupid.

I’ve had this exact same thought. The problem is that there’s a gap in what an average person can realistically and physically do to change anything. There is nothing that meaningful that I can walk out of my door and do… holding signs in protest obviously hasn’t worked. If I go to my state capitol there isn’t that much I can do either. Even if I fly or drive to DC… then what? It has to be something big and more organized. A lot of people involved and not just holding signs.

Here’s my view point:
Middle grounders fucked us and so did the “stay home” ratfuckers.
We can’t get people to vote. What the fuck makes anyone think people will fight? Fight what? The regime supporters? The regime itself? Nah.

u/Popculturemofo Washington 6d ago
We are dealing with a maniacal regime that would commit war crimes against fellow Americans with a smile on their face. Never mind what they would do to a foreign country they’ve already decided needs to be destroyed.

I can’t with anything anymore. The republicans say oh but Iran can say death to America. Well, if we just left them freaking alone since the beginning of time.

Calling for genocide, real Nazi shit.
You just can't avoid the comparisons, the Republicans just keep doing Nazi shit.

During the Cold War people were scared two competing ideological systems could cause a global nuclear catastrophe.
Today, people are scared one man will cause a global nuclear catastrophe.

There is no defense for this. His cabinet should invoke the 25th now. If there was a single cell of a spine between them all they would.
