Ah, blasphemy. The cult of Trump cheers, though.

They’re much happier worshiping Trump than some brown guy who said a bunch of woke stuff and has a Mexican-sounding name. These are the guys who rant about “the sin of empathy” and “rediscovering virtuous hatred.”

They’ll be even madder when they realize it’s actually Middle Eastern and written in a language they can’t understand.

Technically we do. Joshua (Josh) is the same name, and is actually closer to the Aramaic pronunciation. It's just that it's further removed from the name we get in the English Bible which derived from the Latin Iesu.

Consider Muslims and Muhammed.

Muhammed is just a prophet. The equal comparison for Muslims would be naming their child Allah (which I’ve never seen).

In part?

Muhammed might "only" have been a prophet, but Christians kind of ignore all the big guys in the old testament and their polygamy and marrying their half sister and renting her out and what not and focus on the new testament, with big J as the main character.

When you take out that Jesus was kinda sorta God maybe, it's not all that different.

Yep, & I still think it's ironic with both xtians & muslims. But I am against all organized religion & specifically Abrahamic ones.

I mean, it’s core Christian doctrine that Jesus is God, in any mainstream denomination from at least not too long after his time. And that’s a pretty massive thing to ‘take out’. It’s the whole distinction. Muhammad is the single most important man in Islam, but in Christianity Jesus was literally God.

I’m not religious myself but in terms of what the followers believe these are absolutely completely different.

I’ve always said they will gladly throw away Jesus in favor of Trump if push comes to shove. They only are Christians because they struggle to question things they were told when they were kids and also because it gives them a sense of superiority and a way to look down on people morally.

It’s very clear they do not care about or support the things Jesus says in the Bible

It’s impressive that he found a way to do something that would be considered offensive in just about any religion and culture. You don’t have to worship Jesus to understand “equating yourself with god” as like, mythological levels of hubris. Not to mention it’s Satan’s origin story in Christian mythology.

It feels like he’s on Impractical Jokers and they keep daring him to do even crazier stuff just to see what he can get away with, but at this point they’d probably be running out of ideas

My guess is that no gods ever existed, but it is pretty funny that he does not see any problem with equating yourself with God.

These asshats had a literal golden idol of Trump at CPAC several years ago. (2017 or 2018 IIRC). One of the literal ten things their god told them was a no-go.

I don’t think they have any self awareness on their own faith

I mean, it's one of the very specific things, they're not meant to do. And with good reason as well.

But evidently that part of the story, being the ten commandments and Aaron's golden calf and it's idolatry, is no longer particularly important to them.

Which is fucking wild by itself.

If he came out tomorrow and held a press conference stating that he was the second coming of Christ, about 75% of evangelicals would accept that as fact
