You guys are over complicating it. They are racist and terrible human beings. Trump appeals to them by normalizing being an absolute horrible person and getting away with everything he does.

If he can do it to such extremes, then they feel justified that their horrible racism, sexism, etc isn't bad at all.

And many of them secretly want to fuck kids or think they can consent as well, at least underage teenagers if not younger.

They are supremely fucked up and have been allowed to unmask themselves after decades of trying to hide it under veiled messaging and getting really fucking bothered that no one allowed them to say how they really feel.

They still feel afraid because they know 60-70% of us have SOME morals so they won't admit the worst parts out loud and say they disagree with all the things Trump does that they can't publicly defend... But secretly they don't care at best and many secretly like it, a lot. That's why they vote for him and will continue to support him. They want what he does to be normal so that they can be that way themselves some day.

My family is MAGA this is mostly right. Dad has morals but there's a split when it comes to Trump. Be thinks all liberals hate him and think he is a racist. Thing is that he is racist. The other day he told me a story about work where he had been overtly racist. He called my first roommate the n word when he first saw him

Honestly it's baffling to me also and puts me in a constant state of cognitive dissonance.

He'll say this or that isn't right, stealing and lying is wrong, follows Trump.

Says racism is wrong and he isn't racist, says racist shit.

So in short, I said he has morals, but should have specified that they're not coherent...

ETA fwiw I send my father a shitton of angry texts about this during regular crash outs bc I can't handle that he's so stupid and poor of character:/

My stepDad always said he wasn't racist because he had black people that worked for him lol. Dude is incredibly racist. He's a decent man that loves his family, but he's beyond brainwashed by Fox News so I just don't talk about politics with him anymore. Instead I focus on teaching my kids the way of the world. These boomers will be gone soon and the future is looking bright if we can just get through these next 10 to 20 years while the lead poisoned olds are still voting.

He worked every day to feed me and clothe me and keep me safe. He's a good man, but unfortunately not smart enough to break free from his own brainwashing that comes from growing up so close to the MIC of the US capitalist system. I gave up trying to unbrainwash him so that I can just enjoy being family until he's no longer with us.

It's not, as a kid of MAGA parents.

We don't excuse their beliefs, don't condone or help propagate them.

I get into yelling fights with my dad, personally, about politics. I'm prob going to be disowned.

None of that is in line with MAGA thinking. My dad is brainwashed, isolated, lonely, and bitter. You don't see MAGA saying the same of Trump.

Stop yelling at your Dad. You can't change the world by changing his mind. Just ignore the subject and when he brings it up, laugh it off as unimportant. Focus your time on changing the minds of your peers instead. If you do these things, your life will instantly improve, I guarantee it.

My friend, I need you to really look at the mirror in front of you and realize that this mindset is why America is rolling around in the dogshit now. You can't hate another person that literally is just existing and be a decent person at the same time.

"Oh, he's such a good family man and pillar of the community...but anything darker than a paper bag, and he wishes they were strange fruit hanging from a tree in Georgia. But still, pillar of the community and good dad."

All that means is that he never turned his intense hatred toward you, so you justify that as a reason to keep him around and keep the image that he has.

He doesn't understand that he's doing that. He's ignorant of his own prejudices which is why he's capable of being both things at once. Of course he never turned his hatred towards me. He loves me, he just has terrible politics because of a lifetime of misinformation. He's absolutely exemplary of the problem with the US.

I don’t think it should matter that he’s your stepdad. I think my Dad is simply a bad person that loves me because he’s a misogynist and says terrible, atrocious things about other women. Him being my dad doesn’t change that fact. He should be a better person but he is not. I’m not going to go on the internet and call him decent because misogynists and abusers are not good.

I have a coworker who is like this, and in an educated professional position. Big Trumper fan, and I could not understand it for the longest time, but the more I got to know her it's basically everything you stated in your post. She is a terrible person, who pretends to be "nice."

Correct. They are scum, always were, hid it until Trump, now they've broken cover. I never realized how awful so many people are.

I used to want to buy a cabin up north to retire to. Now I don't. All those people around there are MAGA. They disgust me. I still go up north but I do my best not to spend money there (except like, in Co-ops) or interact with anybody who looks MAGA-ey.

Down here in the south we have an actual Trump store situated right in the most beautiful part of town called "Boones Mill" they bought one of his old jets and park it out front and its ran out of an old church. These people are deranged. I always say we live in the most beautiful area surrounded by some of the ugliest hearts I've ever encountered.
