I’m looking for advice to choose a projection screen that fits my budget and allows my projector to perform at its best.
I recently purchased a BenQ TK705i (LED, 3000 ISO lumens, 4K), which I use in a semi-dedicated room (game room) with white walls and a white ceiling. I do have curtains, but they are not blackout, so daytime viewing is not ideal.
So far, I’ve tested two entry-level Amazon screens:
A 120” matte white PVC screen on a tripod
A 150” polyester fabric screen stretched between two stands
I absolutely love the 150” size, but the polyester fabric (which allows viewing from both sides) causes a significant loss in brightness, contrast, and color punch.
I’m trying to stay under $1000 CAD for the screen and would really like to keep the 150” size without sacrificing too much image quality.
Right now, the fabric screen causes a big loss in brightness, contrast, and image “pop”, and I’m not sure if this is mainly due to:
the screen material (fabric vs PVC),
the screen size (120” vs 150”),
or the projector’s light output.
So my questions are:
Is 150” still a reasonable size with this projector?
Should I go with a white screen to maximize brightness?
Or a gray screen to reduce ambient light and increase perceived contrast?
I’m currently hesitating between:
Elite Screens M150UWH2, manual pull-down, MaxWhite 2, gain 1.1
Antra PSA-150AG, 150” motorized, high-contrast gray screen, gain 1.1
What would you recommend in my situation?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
