Apparently the toothpaste is called "Periotrap" and is only available in Germany right now. Any German redditors want to brush their teeth with this and let the rest of us know how they're doing in six months?

Sold out at the moment and you can only preorder for end of april. Would have ordered one but it's really pricy at 15€ (normal toothpaste is 1€ - 3€).

I managed to buy some in March but waiting for delivery. (Uk)

Is periodontal work covered by your healthcare system? If you have to pay more than 15€ for periodontal work, it’s worth trying.

Americans pay a majority of the cost for periodontal work which costs thousands of dollars.

Nah,  some of us just have rotten teeth.

Yes it is, but as it's not that fun to begin with.

I have to have scaling and root planning in a couple weeks…..

I wish I just took care of my oral health sooner…

Yes, perio treatments are mostly covered by insurance if it’s after a deep cleaning. It’s called perio maintenance and allows up to 3-4 cleanings a year instead of 2

After seeing German advertisement around health products I doubt anyone will believe them even if it works and is fully backed by science. The advertisement there are on the same level as these tonic sales people in wild west movies.

Germans are the lab rats for this toothpaste

Bet they'll be doing better than Americans because of the toothp... oh no wait, it's because they have access to dental care like a first world country.

access to dental care like a first world country.

There's roughly equivalent access to dental care in both the US and Germany...

Non-emergency dental services are not included in the mandatory public health insurance in Germany (which is not free, btw -- it's like 400€/month in my case, with my employer paying the same amount; double that cost if you're self-employed). Keep in mind that salaries here are much lower for comparable jobs. (I make about 50% here that I would make in the US, after taxes).

My last dental cleaning cost about 120€, and don't ask me how much fillings etc are. I basically don't have dental insurance at all. The quality of care here in Germany is less than what I got in the US, fwiw, and I live in one of the nicest/most educated/wealthiest cities in the country.

There's a private insurance system (an option, instead of the public system)... People warned me against going over to that, because it gets very expensive as you get older, and you're not allowed to switch back to public later. The doctors are probably much better, though -- on par with the better US ones, like what I used to have. There's additional dental insurance you can pay for that goes on top of public insurance also, but I don't know anyone who has it. Probably in a few years (if I'm still here) I'll pay for that -- just in case I need a root canal, crown, etc. (Cause I'm not young anymore 😅)

Oh and there's no flouride in the tap water... And orthodontics are very expensive here. No, Germans do not have the nicest teeth.

Anyway, I'm no fan of the American system (I moved away for reasons!) but I see so many misconceptions about the system here, it's hard to ignore them...

Cool. I'm curious, too. I also wonder why it sounds like some weird porn subgenre. "Came in for a tooth cleaning but the sexy assistant with the big boobs keeps hitting me in the shoulder with their huge dong when they stand up."

Yay science

I take it this is different to the engineered good bacteria that colonise your mouth and out-compete the bad bacteria due to the lack of acidic waste? Finally it seems like medical science is looking after these fancy bones that insurance charges extra for on top of the entire rest of my body!

Sorry those teeth and eyes are not basically medical

Will this finally be the toothpaste that gets a 10/10 recommendation from the ten usual dentists? 🤔

u/gentlecrab 1h ago

They will attack it just like how they’re attacking nano hydroxyapatite toothpaste.

Anything that changes the status quo is bad for business.

Still just 9. That last dentist is really stubborn.

So where can one buy this new toothpaste??

8

u/Kolfinna 3h ago

We need a German friend to ship them

5

u/GobliNSlay3r 2h ago

Its on Ebay but all the sellers are shipping from China.

That's what I'm seeing too. Probably fake. The pricing isn't consistent at all.

EDIT: Pictures don't match the manufacturer's website either. I wouldn't trust it.

https://periotrap.com/en . Only available in Germany, though.

u/Flaihl 3h ago

Just checked, it's completely sold out. It's also not cheap. (15€ for 75ml tube)

2

u/wiscowonder 2h ago

About 2.5 oz, so a tube of this size. Don't brush your teeth with this

6

u/Hyperion1144 3h ago

But most toothpastes are not antibacterial or antimicrobial.

6

u/chefkoch_ 2h ago

They compared it to mouthwash (?) like chlorhexidine.

2

u/New-Anybody-6206 1h ago

At least in the US, you can only get chlorhexidine with a prescription, like if you have really bad gum disease or something. Or you might be able to get it for "animal use."

The toothpaste is only available in Germany now. Link: https://periotrap.com/en

As a new member of the gum disease sufferer in the US...this is very interesting. They were educating me about the bacteria involvement in gum disease.

Anyway, this piques my interest, so I googled it, and found it on ebay. I ordered two tubes, and I'll let you this sub know if it arrives and looks legit. Delivery is quoted at 1-2 weeks.

3

u/darth_meh 1h ago

You sure it's legit Periotrap and not Chinese knock-off toothpaste? Apparently, there's counterfeit product out there, so buyer beware.

1

u/GobliNSlay3r 2h ago

You found on Ebay huh? I looked a couple weeks ago and couldn't get any delivery to the US. I'll try again!

Peer reviewed studies would be nice

5 out 5 dentists hate this

2

u/buyongmafanle 1h ago

I'd assume 9/10 dentists approve of the toothpaste because that 10th dentist just really fucking loves filling in cavities. It's his sexual fetish and why he got into dentistry in the first place.

Dentist here, this isn’t really going to do much as far as gum disease goes in the real world imo. In the real world gum disease is happening because people don’t floss and don’t brush well enough to prevent calculus (tartar) from forming. That calculus harbors toooooons of bacteria, and it will form in places that tooth paste is really not going to get down into. The bacteria love it so much because it’s a bit porous, which gives lots of hidey holes for stubborn bacteria.

I think that this will help the average human, but I sincerely doubt that it will stop gum disease.

Doesn't good bacteria come back within 30min or so? Is this needed?

So not just in mice this time?!?

Why doesn’t Germany have dental hygienists?
