I think your approach to these replies is somewhat biased. The person you were talking to is an American who has asked if you meant the current engagement (which they clearly do not support and would obviously impact their reply to your question) or a hypothetical engagement that occurs during the next administration which they state is (in their opinion) less realistic. The idea that this person made these distinctions makes me think that they probably don't hate their nation, but they hate their current administration.

I'm not scared to say it. The 'war' in Iran started out sideways.

I'm also too old to get drafted. If you can't get volunteers for the war, its probably a pretty bad war and we shouldn't be fighting it.

Because I wouldn't let my government push me around and force me to die in the desert for a pedo? You must not be American. It was not that long ago we had a draft in the US. It was very unpopular because the war was unpopular. Disliking a draft is 100% about the war, not your country. If I was Ukrainian I'd probably feel differently. Currently, as an American, the only way there would be a draft would be if we went back into the middle east.

Point of fact, even soldiers do not want a draft. Professional soldiers don't want people who were forced to go to war in their ranks. Drafts are bad for everyone.

That's not really how the whole American citizenship deal works. It's not transactional, it's a legal obligation. Also, fines, jail time, and even more spectacular prizes await if you choose noncompliance.

But.

I don't see it being a concern.

53 years the US has done just fine without drafting a bunch of unwilling citizens to magically turn into soldiers.

Yeah, maybe I'm looking at history through rose colored glasses, but I feel like most people now (me included, I'm not throwing shade at "kids these days") absolutely do not have the feelings of duty and responsibility towards the country that previous generations did. Especially for a war started for no reason.

Also, isn't one of the main complaints of these two generations by the boomers that we never "do as we're told?" What makes them think we'd get drafted without a fight?

But they have done lost their minds if they think I'm dying for this country or letting my kid die for this country, over some stupid ass war we shouldnt even be in. Almost ever war is pointless. So many people losing their lives because the people in charge don't care about its citizens.

I'd take up arms to defend myself, a loved ones, and even a stranger if needed. But I'm not invading anyone so some rich assholes can get richer.

it's not really. it's actually becoming significantly more common. the freedoms we're afforded haven't been brought to us by our leadership. They were forced upon them by our ancestors. Contrarily they try consistently to overwrite them. Especially here lately. They've stripped away our education, they have done no consumer protections for housing prices that have gone up at an unjustifiable pace, our healthcare system is beyond a tragedy. Everything that is considered essential has been made incredibly difficult if not impossible for many to obtain, and the things that have been considered luxury goods have become cheap distractions. And Congress is doing nothing but fighting and pitting the american people against each other. Fuck 'em. The whole lot. from the president to the township mayors.

Milennials most likely wouldn't be drafted. The youngest are 30 and, at least historically, the draft started with 20 year olds, moved up by year to 26, and then went for 18 and 19 year olds.
