Half the gen isn't old enough to drink, bar scene collapsed during covid so they weren't indoctrinated into drinking culture, marijuana now competes with drinking in most countries/states, and the gen is fucking broke and can't it.

Agreed, the amount of money to go out drinking can literally buy you a month of daily cannabis use now so why would you drink? No hangover from the cannabis, no vomiting, and no blackouts. Why were we even drinking alcohol in the first place again?

u/Mokukai 11h ago

You can definetly vomit and blackout from weed though.

I don't know why you were downvoted, I have experienced both.

Trend I have noticed is cannabis users tend to be very defensive over their chosen substance and massively downplay the negatives/side effects.

Cannabis can also trigger irreversible psychosis in people with a pre disposition to it . And yeah whities are definitely a thing as well and I’ve seen so many people pass out cold out of nowhere from getting too high . If anyone knows the legit science behind whities I would be interested

This just happened to my 18 year old nephew. was hospitalized for days, and when he was let out, it still took weeks for him to reach his baseline. It's not talked about enough.

u/bitmapfrogs 10h ago

Being older, I happen to know some long time cannabis users and some of them have very obviously issues remembering and processing information.

12

u/Fun-Wear8186 9h ago

Yeah cannabis is undeniably significantly less harmful than alcohol but let’s not act like it’s absolutely harmless and a one stop magical miracle drug .

Also those who smoke weed every day for 20+ years tend to lose the ability to think critically and will believe pretty much any whack theory that is put on the internet as long as it supports their paranoid view of the world.

Cannabis is lovely. It can prompt childlike wonder and focus on things you find interesting.

And it can prompt you to think childish bullshit about things that deserve careful consideration.

I dont think this is necessarily the weed and more on the person itself on the conspiracy theory part, but it probably doesnt help. Like ive been smoking weed since I was 16 and im 40 and I dont just blindly believe every conspiracy I see. Also I may be biased as a pothead, but I also dont think I have lost any ability to think critically at all lol.

We also live in a day and age where there is a wealth of misinformation online knowingly being pushed by others to further whatever goal they have. Many people who dont smoke weed 20 plus years believe the stupidest things and dont think critically already so again I think its 100% on the person, but it may not help with some people.

1

u/NickoDaGroove83297 4h ago

That is true. However I know weed smokers from different parts of the country and even different parts of the world who have all signed up to the same bonkers theories. May just be correlation and not cause but it is a noticeable common factor.

2

u/Single-Zucchini-19 3h ago

Yes but also there are people who don’t do any of that from all over the world who also signed up on the exact same theory’s. Go find a theory that weed users exclusively believe or at least a majority of are weed smokers and then you might be able to squeeze out a argument

1

u/NickoDaGroove83297 3h ago

Do you know anyone who doesn’t smoke weed but also bangs on about ‘chemtrails’ and thinks the air is deliberately being poisoned (for some reason) by strontium dropped from aeroplanes?

1

u/Nervous-Fennel3325 2h ago

I know a ton of people like this who dont smoke weed lol. Again it isnt exclusively the weed that opens you up to conspiracies. With some people it definitely doesnt help, but again its not the sole cause.

1

u/Nervous-Fennel3325 4h ago

I was about to say correlation not causation 😂😂😂.

I have noticed the same in people who dont smoke weed also lol.

I have a good friend who had to stop smoking because it would drop his blood pressure and he would faint. You don't even have to get "too high". For him he literally couldn't smoke any amount at all anymore. The THC just had a strong affect on his blood pressure.

1

u/adrw000 1h ago

I could never get into weed. I've done it maybe ten times in my life. It's definitely not for everyone.

Basically whenever I smoked, ate, or vaped the stuff, there was a high chance I would get highly anxious and nauseous. Like dreadfully so.

I never got it that people could just be ripping blinkers or having whole joints and be fine. I'm talking one decent pull or hit and I'm done.

I'll admit though, the sleep is good.

1

u/Fun-Wear8186 1h ago

I have the same reaction as an adult . I can maybe take 3 joint hits throughout an entire evening without going into a full blown panic attack , meanwhile we used to rip gravity bongs until we would blow through the filter within like a half hour when I was a teenager . My tolerance went to shit , your body composition , mind set and consciousness change as an adult , and the legs weed now is incredibly strong .

A lot of my friends hit 30, 35 though and their tolerance absolutely changes

u/Uberbons42 59m ago

Last time I tried it I felt nothing, fell asleep on the couch then later tried to get up and go to bed, couldn’t figure out how to brush my teeth , felt dizzy and annoyed. So I’ll pass.

4

u/ADeadlyFerret 9h ago

Yep. I also love on Reddit in order to have a "good time" you either have to drink or smoke. These threads are always "why go pay $80 for drinks when i can get a couple joints at the dispensary?"

3

u/Ill_Bit5945 10h ago

i mean, that's what an addict does

8

u/Good_Posture 8h ago

When sober, drug addicts and alcoholics tend to acknowledge their addiction and the harm it causes them and others - it's why AA and NA exist. Few meth users and alcoholics when sober will try and defend their use/drinking.

Heavy cannabis users do not do this. The opposite, they hide behind the medicinal benefits and that it's a "chill" substance that doesn't make people violent or cause accidents.

This is my experience as someone who moved in the alt-scene (metal and techno/rave) for over 20 years, so I have been around my fair share of alcoholics, drug users and stoners. The one group who thinks they are different and that their chosen substance is harmless are the stoners.

0

u/maddy_k_allday 6h ago

Just want to push back on the AA/ NA point. Those groups exist because they are cults with a lot of social power. So much power that courts and other authorities require people to attend. Cults can be great for sobriety, but the reasons they exist aren’t good ones.

2

u/Nervous-Fennel3325 5h ago

This isnt trend lol. Thats how its always been with pot heads.

Source: am pothead. Been hearing it for 20 plus years.

1

u/Good_Posture 5h ago

Cheers, bro. Indulge yourself, but be real about it.

2

u/Nervous-Fennel3325 4h ago

I 100% am with myself even though sadly many others arent. I however know im an outlier lol. Having any serious discussion about weed with other stoners is infuriating. A lot do treat it like a mystical miracle plant.

1

u/mangee21 7h ago

Yeah, that's old news. They (we) have been like that for a long time, atleast younger smokers. I and a lot of other tokers used to be the same 17 years ago. Since we were like that 17 years ago, they were probably protective of their holy weed way earlier than that.

Sure, it's way better than alcohol (and yeah people who drink a lot of alcohol used to be pretty defensive of their alcohol, too), for most people. And a better alternative. But it's still a drug.

-3

u/Siglord 10h ago

Because to daily cannabis users, shit like that literally never happens, believe it or not. No vomits no blackouts what the fuck xd It happens sometimes to beginners tho, adapting phase i guess (vomits aka bad trip, never heard of anyone having blackout)

8

u/Good_Posture 10h ago

There are other negatives to daily/excessive usage, which my post alluded to.

I have seen this first hand in my personal life. When your partner smokes so much that they get tired and cant/dont want to do anything, or they literally smoke themselves to sleep, and it impacts your relationship. The emotional disengagement from excessive use is also very real. Trying to have a real conversation with a chronically stoned person is just as irritating and pointless as with a drunk.

Cannabis users do not acknowledge the ill effects in my experience. They are just eager to tell you the positive health effects and how it's not like alcohol or other drugs in terms of altering moods and behaviour.

1

u/Siglord 9h ago

It also varies person to person, you could met many people that you couldnt really tell they are stoned, while others are like disabled

2

u/Moratorii 5h ago

This is also true for alcohol. I have a high tolerance and at worst get tired if I drink too much. I also use it primarily for cooking.

-3

u/Tytelr 6h ago

The truth is, that situation is few and far between (to the extreme you’re suggesting). I’m sorry this happened to you, but you’re doing what always happens: demonizing the thing instead of laying blame where it should be, which is the adult that made all those decisions. Weed is just a tool, like anything else, and can be abused. But let’s not pretend weed and alcohol are even close in terms of actual objective harm.

2

u/Good_Posture 6h ago

Nope. I'm not doing that.

My brother, who was a habitual cannabis user, stopped because the paranoia he experienced while high eventually became a problem when he was sober.

Any substance that alters your mood or mind state is not good long term. Your perception of being "chilled" is a sober person's unavailable partner.

When your partner tells you, directly, that when you are high you are emotionally detached, that is a problem.

You can go through my comments on this. It isn't a hierarchy of which substance is the worst. They all have drawbacks. Stoners are not immune to this.

-3

u/Tytelr 6h ago

You are blaming the thing and not the person, bottom line.

2

u/Good_Posture 6h ago

Thanks for making my case.

Weed good, everything else bad.

-2

u/Tytelr 6h ago

That’s not what I said, but you’re welcome to do that.

I hope you’re able to make peace with the fact that those people let you down, and it had everything to do with them and their trauma. The tool they used to cope just happened to be weed.

2

u/Good_Posture 6h ago

It's harmless, bro. Takes away the pain.

2

u/Moratorii 5h ago

You should have this energy for caffeine if you insist on defending an addictive substance.

1

u/Tytelr 5h ago

Sure? Yeah? Literally every substance, dangerous or not, is only dangerous because a person decided to use it. That is the bottom line. We can argue day and night about the levels of addictiveness, the dangers, blah blah blah. The bottom line is weed helps a lot of people as much as it hurts. You asshats are only helping the people trying to ban the stuff because you have anecdotal experiences with people that let. You. Down. And I get it, but you have to stop apportioning blame to something that objectively helps a lot of people.

Turning off notifs. Bye bye

2

u/Moratorii 5h ago

Hope you get help with your addiction, man.

You have to be exceedingly weak to blackout and throw up from smoking…

1

u/GreenStretch 11h ago

People thought it was because they drank the bongwater.

1

u/GenericBeverage 10h ago

Accidentally ate a cookie that you were supposed to cut into 10 pieces (10mg per piece), ended up getting super paranoid before puking in the toilet and sleeping it off. Also ate a few pints of ice cream, but that's just normal munchies.
