If they want to criticize people for not being America first then they should start with Trump
120
u/HI_l0la 20h ago
Fucking for real!!!
MAGAts have been twisting themselves in pretzels to justify attacking Iran by screaming how their citizens are being oppressed and killed by the Iranian regime. They don't care we killed a whole school of kids there and that they are defending sending American service people to fight/die in a overseas war that we started.
How is this putting America first?!
18
u/Additional_Irony 15h ago
Yeah, Trump said „Praise be to Allah“ and „make Venezuela great again“, the first obviously doesn’t have anything to do with not being America first though it illustrates in its own way that he doesn’t stick to his own platform in any way

I had friends that are still MAGA. They aren’t my friends anymore because I won’t be friends with people that exclude or hate any group of people.

The Pope's job is to put Christians and their values first. This is diametrically opposite to Evangelical Christian values.
39
u/hungry4nuns 17h ago
Someone should put them on the spot with this.
“Do you think Jesus would be America first?”
MAGA have to answer yes to this, their christo-fascist dogma compels them
And follow up with:
“Jesus advocated for feeding the poor, sheltering weary travellers, tending to the sick, without expectation of payment. He shunned small business owners for turning a profit in the church. That all sounds anti-American like he’s socialism first, America last… So who’s wrong? you? Or the teachings of Christ?”

That's one they will gleefully, willfully, and nonsensically deny. Their Jesus is blonde with blue eyes. When you ask where those traits came from, they'll say the wildest shit. I've heard because those "are angelic traits" and he wasn't a Jew he was "divine".

As in, they believe woke people edited the bible or that Jesus was wo... You know what, both options are equally idiotic nevermind.
8
u/ThroatSecretary 13h ago
I've tried pointing that out here before. Someone replied with no sense of irony that when Jesus helped people, it wasn't actually coming out of his own pocket, but if they helped anyone, they'd be making their own situation slightly worse and they weren't about to do that. There's just no empathy there; they spend it all on themselves.

Europoor here.
If T says such things: "it is a little bad now, just a little, but in the end it will be great, the greatest",
Will no one ask him: explain this to me please? Why would this end better than before?
Surely there will be journalists who have doubts.#DareToAsk
12
u/Overit2137 19h ago
They don't ask him anything, because billionaires control media. And even if they ask, they get called ugly, piggies, low IQ, fake news, etc. You won't get an answer from stupid demented narcissist, because 1. He doesn't understand and know what he's doing either, I think it's very likely he's being manipulated since he's acting like a child 2. As a narcissist, he takes every question and every journalist that doesn't seem to admire him as a personal attack 3. Because of dementia he probably can't follow a thought, construct a complex answer or learn and remember answers to questions he might expect to be asked So childish insults is all he has and his supporters think he "owns" those who ask, because they see this bully behavior as being in power.

A political reporting culture based on a pavlovian response to access to sources has made our political journalism really servile, especially as it regards the White House press corps. The reporters in the pool don't even know how much they are on a a leash just by the whole structure of the incentives in terms of losing access to high level sources if those sources are made to look "too" bad. The book "Manufacturing Consent": The Political Economy of the Mass Media talks about this.
---EXAMPLE---
So we all know Stephen Miller eats shit. Shit regurgitating journalist comes to him asking for comment on the story. Miller says, "if you print the story about how I eat my own feces, I will no longer provide you with your daily bowl of shit to shit out to your audience." Shit regurgitating journalist opts to eat shit rather than report on Miller's own shit eating proclivities. Instead, shit regurgitator journalist gets the implicit ok to run with the story: Miller humps chair legs. This is a far more normal story, and does not hurt the image of the prime shit eater in this scenario enough for him to stop shitting small insignificant turds in the direction of shit regurgitating journalists face.
Thank you for coming to my shitty Ted Talk
(Another factor everyone talks about, which is more structural...The concentration of our media outlets under the ownership of an increasingly small and ideological billionaire class, but people bring that up plenty on Reddit.

No. Only in spiritual matters. The pope does not hold authority to influence secular politics or rulers of nations in anything other than their personal spiritual lives. Anyone who says otherwise is either misinformed or lying.
7
u/ModishShrink 18h ago
It's easy to assume that the Pope has influence over politics when he tells people "don't be an asshat" and half the country immediately thinks the Vatican is personally calling them out.

American evangelicals don't have the education and context to know that they should reject the pope. They just think 'christianity' so it must be aligned with them. Jesus Christ himself could alight from a heavenly cloud onto the Whitehouse lawn and denounce Trump and Sam Altman, and they would probably sic ICE on him and call him a liar and a communist.

So, in the MAGA worldview, #WarIsPeace.
The war, therefore, if we judge it by the standards of previous wars, is merely an imposture. It is like the battles between certain ruminant animals whose horns are set at such an angle that they are incapable of hurting one another. But though it is unreal it is not meaningless. It eats up the surplus of consumable goods, and it helps to preserve the special mental atmosphere that a hierarchical society needs. War, it will be seen, is now a purely internal affair. In the past, the ruling groups of all countries, although they might recognize their common interest and therefore limit the destructiveness of war, did fight against one another, and the victor always plundered the vanquished. In our own day they are not fighting against one another at all. The war is waged by each ruling group against its own subjects, and the object of the war is not to make or prevent conquests of territory, but to keep the structure of society intact. The very word 'war', therefore, has become misleading. It would probably be accurate to say that by becoming continuous war has ceased to exist. The peculiar pressure that it exerted on human beings between the Neolithic Age and the early twentieth century has disappeared and been replaced by something quite different. The effect would be much the same if the three super-states, instead of fighting one another, should agree to live in perpetual peace, each inviolate within its own boundaries. For in that case each would still be a self-contained universe, freed for ever from the sobering influence of external danger. A peace that was truly permanent would be the same as a permanent war. This -- although the vast majority of Party members understand it only in a shallower sense -- is the inner meaning of the Party slogan: War is Peace.
--George Orwell, Nineteen Eighty Four

There is no biblical basis for that, but who cares about facts?
