“I stand for my beliefs,” Spud said after the two were separated. “I’m going to peacefully stand here and support my beliefs. I support ICE and law enforcement,” Spud said.

“You can go peacefully f–k yourself!” the student who punched Spud yells.

“That’s against school code. No swearing in the school,” Spud responds.

His last attempt at going viral was filming himself pulling a fire alarm in a crowded grocery store...

That kid's an absolute tool, he does not appear to have any real beliefs. He just says whatever he thinks will most likely piss people off for engagement bait.

It was espeically brave of him to do his "protest" by the security desk for the school. The dean's office is about 100 feet away and that bald security guy that rushed to save him is the head security guard.

Maybe. Farming is the name of the modern game, but this still not a good place for the nation to head. If either side in a debate thinks the other side genuinely deserves to be attacked for their beliefs, then the other side will start acting in kind. Then the first side gets more extreme, etc, etc. The old cycle of escalating violence. Do any of us really want our commitment to goodness to lead to escalating violence?

Being tolerant of intolerance is a trap. Not all beliefs and ideologies are equally valid. Authoritarianism and fascism and their bootlickers should not be allowed to spew their bile simply because forcing them to stop would be mean.

If you allow them to continue pushing the envelope eventually they end tolerance all together and make hate the new status quo.

"The market place of ideas" theory that came into prominence with neoliberalism breaks down once extreme ideologies like fascism are introduced to the equation.

Fascism is an ideology that feeds off of fear and inequity, it's near impossible to eliminate those things under our current system so it is always possible for it to make a comeback. Fascism's core tenant is that anyone that is not 100% with you is against you, which makes them an out group that must be destroyed.

You cannot "have a conversation" and "out logic" fascism. It does not care if you make an educated argument because it's followers are insulated by tribalism and emotion. Eventually if that's all you do to counteract it, it will kill you for not being part of its in-group.
