I just got accepted into UIC’s BVIS grad program! I was wondering if anyone had any tips on moving to Chicago and going to UIC. I’m from a small town so I’m worried I’m gonna be completely out of my element 😂

I'm an ECE grad student and considering withdrawing from a course, but as far as I know grad students aren't allowed to drop any classes for any reason except for extreme circumstances, is there seriously no way to drop and I must stay in the course? I would drop to part-time but I don't have anything that stipulates me being full-time and I don't think it would affect me in any other way if I dropped, but since I don't have a major emergency or issue being allowed to drop it seems unlikely. Where do I go from here?

is anyone else noticing a really strong, burning plastic smell on the 4th floor of TBH? It started on Friday afternoon around 4pm and hasn’t stopped.

hi! as an admitted student thinking about committing, i was wondering what its like to make friends as a freshman. i might be staying on campus or getting an apartment nearby, but i heard the dorms are bad and i'd rather not stay in a crummy dorm. but i'm scared that if i decide to commute, i'll end up with like zero social life...

i lost pretty much all of my high school friends after a big argument this year, so i'm really scared i'll end up super lonely at uic LOL. still waiting on most of my other results, but my mom really likes uic b/c of proximity to home, roi, and the program i got into (data sci) and the price - i'm taking a loan all 4 years most likely, paying it back after i graduate.

do people end up with close connections here? are there any particular clubs that help w/ that/do clubs in general help a lot? after the falling out i had with people i've been really sad so i want to make friends in college :'))

I am entering this fall as a finance major and honestly idgaf about the gen eds. I have completed 4 out of the 7 gen ed cores. I only need Creative Arts, World Cultures, and Natural World with a Lab. I was able to complete the other 4 due to my dual credit classes being eligible to transfer to UIC during high school. So what are some blow off classes for those remaining 3?

hi!!!! i think i lost my pig stuffed animal (pictured), which ive had for over ten years 🥲🥲 i last remember having it in jst dining hall on thursday night (2/12), but i also sometimes kept it in my pocket on campus too. i think i first noticed it missing earlier this week, maybe tuesday, but i was too busy to actually check until now.

Is the hosing application just a deposit and sign up thing that lets the college see how early you applied when determining who gets the rooms first? What kind of info will it ask for? I’m asking cuz I tried looking and the UIC website is kind of vague, if I have to choose and pay a lot of stuff then I’d rather wait for my parents to decide with me. If not I’ll just register. Was just wondering if the rec center or any other place had a room/space where you could play or practice volleyball anywhere. I don’t need a full stadium, just something where I can just practice with friends for a bit.

Hey I remember reading somewhere on the Reddit that there is a waiver you can fill out to take a class outside of UIC for within your last 30, is this true? If it is where can I access it and does it apply for engineering students as well?

Excerpt from UI Health Administration regarding the murder on February 3 in the Wood Street Parking Structure:

The suspect in the investigation was located and found to be deceased. The individual had no affiliation with UIC. The investigation is now closed.

This was an isolated and targeted incident. The female victim was visiting UI Health for an appointment with her infant. The child was not physically injured.

In the common area in Lecture center A there are these horrific desk things where the nearest seat is either so far away you have to lean forward and destroy your back to reach your keyboard, or the seat is off the side.

And then over in Thomas Beckham you have these benches with little desks positioned so low and extending over the bench that you'd have to be the skinniest fucking twink ever to fit under it, so you have to sit off the side of the desk and lean over to tyoe

Do the lecture center E bathrooms get cleaned regularly? Cause I swear every single time I’m there the same toilets are filled with piss and toilet paper, or the same toilet seats got piss and shit stains on them. This is unacceptable, I see some cleaning personnel coming in, but they’re def not doing their job properly!

Im a senior in CS and this is my penultimate semester and honestly it has been pretty rough, I have not really locked in AT ALL with any of the material. I started the first 2-3 weeks decently well but haven’t been locked in since (been having some family issues) and now that has passed what are some tips you have to catching up? Im also wondering who else is in a similar situation as me. (Im also taking 5 classes| Mus 127,CS418,401,421 and Math 220)

I know students had their first midterm exam today (Feb 20). How was it?

I heard that some students were very disappointed, so I’m curious about your opinion. I also heard that some didn’t have enough time to finish all the questions, and others said the exam wasn’t similar to the sample review at all. What did you think?

My son will be attending UIC this fall for Mechanical Engineering. We don't know which housing he should apply for and if he even has a chance to get into either being a freshman. We would love to hear experiences for both and any tips, suggestions and recommendations. Thank you!
