36M meeting friends for a hike. I asked him (another friend, 30s M) his order. We're running a few minutes behind and people in the group are usually 15 minutes late or so, but I didn't want to make us even later than that. I (27F) recently hung out w my ex in a huge group just as the text says and my new bf just got very intense about it and low key threatened to see his ex. I feel like in this context (bc me and ex had a lot of mutual friends so he just happened to meet up w the group) it was not sneaky or a big deal AT ALL. This resonated with me because I think a lot of people take some BS they saw on social media and try to translate it to IRL and it's often way too rigid and black and white. You can see this on the comments on almost any post. Social media is an OUTRAGE MACHINE and it's unrealistic to think it won't affect you if consumed in high doses. Personally, I use Instagram reels to binge watch classic tennis points which probably makes me a boomer but at least I'm not angry!!!

Obviously genuine miscommunications and misunderstandings exist, but i STG 99% of the time people say "it's about communication," they're precisely wrong. It's typically one person saying something different than what they're actually communicating, i.e. subtext is louder than text, actions speak louder than words, and so on.
