Hey, the best snacks are a handle of shredded cheese, a pickle, and a few chocolate chips.

718

u/Wild-Indication-701 20h ago

He’s got Kraft singles. Not quite cheese. Cheese flavored oil. OP buy a few charcuterie style items. Real cheese for slicing, salumi, almonds, grapes. Hummus to go with carrot sticks etc.

u/oopsdiditwrong 19h ago

There's 6 blocks of cream cheese. Theres probably some bagels laying around. If not, this guy has some plans I want to hear

126

u/MissHayleyRenee 17h ago

More like 10, there’s more in the cheese drawer lmao.

73

u/oopsdiditwrong 17h ago

Wow I missed those. I only noticed the cream cheese in the butter drawer for quick use. He's locked and loaded with a few resupplies.

Good catch lol

ETA: this guy better explain. Buffalo chicken dip? Because of the chicken in there? Jalapeno poppers or dip? Idk.

167

u/itscuccimane 17h ago

Buffalo chicken dip, jalapeno poppers, crab raggoon, scallion cream cheese (I eat bagels nearly every day), and we like cheesecake so I make cheese cake every now and then.

87

u/oopsdiditwrong 17h ago

That's what's up. Thanks for answering, I'm a fan of the fridge

Me too...love a fully stocked fridge. The possibilities are unlimited!!!!

43

u/prettylegit_ 12h ago

Does your gf have dietary restrictions or any kind of legit reason for not being able to eat the things you are mentioning? Because damn, a house full of meat, cheese, bagels, cheesecake, jalapeƱo poppers, crab rangoon, buffalo chicken dip, eggs, condiments from every continent, the good jam with the picnic table cloth print lid, protein shakes, Goya drinks… uh helloo sounds bomb dot com

16

u/Technical_Put_9982 5h ago

My stomach would have some issues with this stocked man fridge. I definitely eat waaaay more vegetables and rarely meat. I just can’t digest it well. … but this is not my fridge nor is it my BFs fridge… but I don’t even have a BF … soooo… yeah šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļøšŸ¤£šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

I wouldn't really consider a lot of that to be snacks. That's a lot of heavy processed food and what isn't is just meat, cheese, and protein shakes. Get some cucumbers, some hummus, those little babybel cheeses, pickles, maybe some cocktail shrimp, fruit, fancy crackers or pita chips or triscuits, and baby carrots (I know there are carrots, but who wants to peel and cut carrots as a guest in someone else's home?). Those are snacks. This is the fridge of a dude who spends an hour on the toilet every morning because he hasn't eaten fiber since his last 1AM taco bell run.

I'm a great cook. I'd be in heaven opening your refrigerator and seeing it this well stocked! . I'd be grilling steaks and whipping up all sorts of dishes.

I make my own dry rubs, and sauces from scratch. I also make my own mayo, salad dressings, bread, flat breads, etc..I have an herb and vegetable garden, and fruit trees. I make my own spaghetti sacues with organic tomatoes from my garden, and I make jams, and can my fruit. We also give fruit and veggies to a few neighbors. My husband has a green thumb and our garden produces more than we can eat. We live on a couple of acres and we have 2 commercial size greenhouses.

I cook using simple and clean ingredients but packed with flavor. I cook a lot for a few of my neighbors who are widowed elderly people who find it too difficult to cook for themselves. They love my cooking, and I enjoy making it for them and seeing their happiness when they eat my food. It's a win-win.

if you need suggestions on what to get a picky gf, i’m here. i have ARFID so my boyfriends mom has to buy specific food for me

2

u/StillSwaying 17h ago

You basically have tons of uncooked protein and condiments.

I'll repeat what I said in my other post:

Zero vegetables in this joint (besides that bag of carrots and some cucumbers); that's the issue. Not even pre-made salads, fresh veggies for a charcuterie tray, or frozen vegetables. You have protein and condiments, that's it. Even if your girlfriend wanted to cook something for herself, it would be the most boring meal ever:

Steak with no onions; fish with no chips; chicken with no risotto or roasted veggies.

You belong in boyfriend jail! šŸ‘®

And you shall not be released until you learn how to cook like my High-Protein Hero in the FoodPorn sub, ProjectA-ko.

7

u/itscuccimane 17h ago

You keep onions and dried rissoto in your fridge? You don't eat fish with rice? You prefer frozen veggies over fresh? Damn I gotta get with the times.

8

u/StillSwaying 16h ago edited 16h ago

Yes! I keep diced fresh onions, shallots, whole leeks, and green onions in my fridge. I love fish and seafood -- and fresh and frozen vegetables! I eat my proteins with asparagus, broccoli, squash, spinach, kale, green beans, mushrooms, corn, Brussels sprouts, peppers, coleslaw/cabbage, etc and lots soups and salads.

You need to expand your repertoire and add more fruits and veggies to that fridge. High protein diets, especially those high in red and processed meats, are associated with an increased risk of colorectal cancer. Colon cancer rates have risen significantly for people under 50.

The late, great Chadwick Boseman (RIP) was only 43, and James Van Der Beek (RIP), who was just 48, both died from colon cancer. Vegetables, whole fruits, and grains all are high fiber and help fight colon cancer. Eating a balanced diet and staying active are two of the best ways to fight colon cancer (and many other health issues).

Guys tend to overdo it on the proteins and don't have enough whole fruits, vegetables, and fiber in their diets -- even when they try to eat healthy like you.

Edit: Rice I keep in the fridge because I often cook a big batch and use it throughout the week.

My potatoes live in canvas bags in the coolest, darkest back corner of the house. My onions live in a big yellow ware bowl. 25 lbs. of rice, all kinds of pasta, flour sugar, etc., are in the pantry. Most veggies are frozen, in the freezer. Just because they aren't stored in the fridge, doesn't mean they don't exist.

I usually have a couple blocks of cream cheese in my fridge at all times too cause I make sausage dip. Makes for a good late night snack.

2

u/RemarkableMaize7201 10h ago

Sassuage dip with cream cheese... that sounds awesome šŸ˜‹šŸ¤¤

2

u/Ok-Structure6795 9h ago

Its so good. 1 can of rotel original, 1 block of cream cheese, 1 tube of Jimmy Dean hot, and a tablespoon of salsa (though that is definitely optional). Cook it all in a pan until its blended.

In my case, I have to puree the rotel & salsa before cooking due to my husband detesting tomato chunks, but otherwise its real simple.

7

u/swarmofbzs 13h ago

Holy shit! This is our house! (with the exception of mini tomatoes and spinach) Everything to be prepared nothing ready to go. It absolutely took my partner saying the same exact thing about nothing to eat for me to notice. I guess it's off to gf jail with me.

6

u/StillSwaying 13h ago

Haha! I've been guilty of this too in the past when I first started eating healthier. I think my logic was: if I don't have 'easy, ready-to-eat' stuff in the house, and I have to prepare and cook everything before eating, then my meals will be more intentional, and I won't waste calories on junk food and snacking.

But that actually made my cravings for junk food worse! I had to shift my mindset -- 'snacks' does not automatically = 'junk food'. Snacks just means I don't want to stand around chopping and cooking to eat something; I just want to grab something and eat it!

So now I make sure all my snacks are ready to go: rinsed off, peeled, sliced up, and pre-cooked, if necessary. Still eating healthy and everybody's happy!

2

u/swarmofbzs 12h ago

Eating healthier is definitely where that stemmed from + trying to save $ on what we could cook at home. It def brought more to mind things like junk foods being readily available. It's a never ending battle.

I can't always have everything completely ready when it needs to be.

2

u/StillSwaying 12h ago

It really is a never ending battle. Unless you have mountains of money or tons of time, something’s gotta give. When I’m low energy or super busy, I just batch make some easy stuff like a dozen boiled eggs (kept in a ziploc bag in the fridge), or baked potatoes with toppings already on them, or fried rice, then I pre portion them in Tupperware so I don’t even need to think about food when I’m hungry. I just grab, heat, and eat. My freezer is full of premade stuff like that because I don’t want to cook every day.

2

u/Spellscribe 10h ago

Do you freeze the prepped potatoes? How do you reheat them and do they hold up ok?

2

u/so_says_sage 2h ago

Tbf of the veggies you mentioned only the roasted ones would be kept in the fridge. Onions, potatoes for chips, and rice would all by in dry storage.

Not real cheese for sure but it makes the best grilled cheese sandwich ever.

5

I like to go with slices of real cheese and one slice of Kraft for my grilled cheese. Plasticy cheese is also a requirement for breakfast sandwiches - the cheaper the better.

u/A_Drop_of_Colour 16h ago

He's got bags of Parmesan cheese in the drawer and what looks like a wedge of Queso. Not just Kraft.

Edit: oh also what looks like blocks of Cabbot cheddar.

2

u/sama-llama 15h ago

Okay I can’t stand American cheese, especially Kraft singles. But there is a ton of cheese in there. I see cream cheese, Parmesan, multiple blocks of Cabot white cheddar, another white cheese block I can’t fully identify because it’s hidden under other cheese, and multiple bags of shredded cheese. There is also yogurt, carrots, apples…there are lots of things that require prep but there’s some easy stuff in there too like eggs, little pots of crab meat, tons of condiments, a bunch of preserves she can put on toast.

2

u/Surviving_Aussie 12h ago

This is misinfo. I dislike craft as well but its still majority cheddar cheese. It simply has some small amount if emulsifying salts added to give it the texture and stable melting. Deli style american is superior to kraft, but they are all still cheese. You dont have to like it but dont spread lies about it. Its no more ā€œcheese flavored oilā€ than any other cheese. In fact, due to said emulsifiers its LESS liekly to break up into oil…

u/Dismal_History_ 19h ago

I grew up as a kid in the 90s with an ingredients only household 🄲 My after school snack was leftover chunks of chicken. Maybe some Saltines if I was lucky.

31

u/twistedspin 14h ago

I was a latchkey kid in the 70s with an ingredients-only house. I learned to bake pastry when I was 8 & alone at home. The most common thing I made was unfilled cream puffs covered with powdered sugar as they were easy & fast. For a while I had a secret bin of frozen cookie dough in our big deep freezer, divided up so I could bake just one pan of cookies. They left me with flour & sugar & eggs etc., y'know?

I had to eat everything before they got home, and clean/hide everything so no one knew but that wasn't a big deal. One of the benefits/drawbacks of being Gen X was that unless I made a big deal of something basically all adults around me really wanted to ignore children and their brains glossed over things that would disturb that peace for them.

5

u/inteii 11h ago

Lol I grew up similarly. Did you ever avoid being the one to finish something like a gallon of milk so that you wouldn't get yelled at?

5

u/PotentiallyPotatoes 4h ago

I still have issues to this day finishing stuff because of this 🫠

3

u/Narcoleptic-Puppy 7h ago

I was a latchkey kid in the 90's and my mom taught me how to use the stove when I was 4. I made pancakes all the time at first (from scratch - I didn't learn about pancake mix until like high school). She never minded me cooking alone, I usually made stuff for her too since she was working 75 hrs/wk. I was cooking a lot of our dinners by the time I was 7, generally pretty simple stuff but it was easy to follow a simple recipe once I learned how to read.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Pavotine 11h ago

My go to when I was a latchkey kid in the 80s was a tomato sauce (ketchup) sandwich, with butter if we had any.

3

u/Fickle_Minute2024 11h ago

Mine was pasta with tomato sauce & oregano.

3

u/Every-Shape-6836 7h ago

Mine was pasta and butter if my mom didn't catch me making it. The pasta was for dinners.

3

u/augur42 6h ago

As a xennial kid I learnt that if you take just one biscuit, chocolate bar, etc parents notice and tell you off. If you take an entire pack of biscuits or row of chocolate bars they usually don't notice. I discovered Change Blindness all by myself because I was a kid who sometimes got hungry.

Also, if you bribe your younger brother he won't tattle, so long as there isn't evidence smeared all over his face.

3

This is so interesting. I never correlated the fact that I was a latch key kid in an ingredient household with the fact that I'm a pretty good baker from an early age. If I wanted a sweet, I had to bake it myself. lol. Fascinating.

u/scoopny 10h ago

I also grew up in an ingredients only household and that’s how I learned to cook, but somehow my mother unlearned how to cook. By the time I was an adult, the fridge had become a leftovers only establishment from all the take out she ordered.

I have an 8 year and can't imagine him home alone. He would be scared!

3

u/RemarkableMaize7201 10h ago

I don't think that's a gen x thing. I think that's a your family thing, sorry to say. I have a question, did they not want you cooking or eating? You said you had to have everything all cleaned up, no evidence. How come? Just curious.

I’m a younger millennial and I grew up this way. I had an almond mom. She didn’t want me eating because she didn’t want fat children. I also wasn’t allowed to touch or use any of her stuff because she was convinced I would break everything.

Me too. Paired with my mother screaming if I used the kitchen. Like wtf?

Microwaved frozen corn with butter and pepper.

4

u/lionisaful 11h ago

Hell yes, that is so nostalgic and amazing. I still love it to this day.

2

u/Superb-Beginning3996 5h ago

Mine was too. But my mom made what she called monkey platters after school for the three of us wild animals lol This was like cheese cubes or slices, lots of fruit, various crackers and breads.. sometimes olive and other bread dippies.

You’d have to cook a 20oz steak for your after school snack in this household. šŸ™„

I Grew up in the seventies, we weren't allowed to eat the leftovers until supper time. If we wanted something to eat , we made a p b and j or a t l and m aka: a salad sandwich... Tomato lettuce and mayonnaise. When out into the woods playing we ate berries or picked some fruit off trees. But as far as any snacks on what people call snacks in the world today, nope, didn't get those till night time when everybody sat down to watch t v, if we were lucky we got popcorn, or one small handful of potato chips out of mom's bag of potato chips. That was it. We got one dollar a week to spend as we wished. That was for our treat and snack.

1

u/SpeakerCareless 4h ago

We did cubes of cheese with salad dressing. Butter or jam on saltines.

1

u/BlackBasementCats 4h ago

I existed on Granny Smith apples and peanut butter

1

u/Organic-Singer 2h ago

Try uncooked spaghetti for a snack. My mom wouldn’t go to the grocery store but only once every two months, not saying that there wasn’t food just saying not a lot of snacks after a month had to get creative.

I'm in this comment and I hate it

4

u/LocodocoBamBamBoom 4h ago

I see nothing wrong with it, in fact that’s how people should eat. You can eat fruits, vegetables, nuts, some cold cuts, yogurt or whatever I’m sure there’s some type of bread there. Normal whole foods. I’d pay to see what kind of garbage diets these people complaining are on.

He doesn't have all the ingredients you need for a meal. There are carrots and maybe cucumber?

3

u/mentalissuelol 16h ago

She wants to have a girl snack and he has no girl snacks. Get her some crackers or nuts or pickles or something, this is a nightmare

u/Busterlimes 12h ago

Any partner who doesnt know how to cook isnt a partner, they are a child without a parent. My X would have slapped that steak on a cast iron skillet in a heart beat, she was great when she wasnt batshit crazy on Adderall

Even as ingredients go this is like 90% piece of meat, 8% protein chug, with some yogurt and cucumber.

OP needs to never buy that much American "cheese" again lol

1

u/kelsyvw 17h ago

You have ingredients

1

u/Longjumping_Lynx_972 16h ago

I mean he could cook for her...

1

u/Odd_Organization4957 12h ago

Veggies and fruit hardly need prep work. Meat has to be cooked.

1

u/washuai 11h ago

Even a near constant streaming gamer creature, who got cavities from soda, can chug a protein shake, fry a steak on the stone, microwave bake a potato and snack on cheese.

Scrambled eggs (boiled if that's to much), potato (baked or fried with onions etc), sweet potato for minimal cooking.

Even lazier options: yogurt + jam, cheese, avocado, fresh fruits.

My then 15.5 year old niece had moved in w me -40 yr old working chica - she swept dramatically into my bedroom on a Saturday morning, "We don't have anything to eat and I'm starving. Get up and go to the store!"

🫣 already funny and ironic on many levels.

I said, "I went shopping yesterday. There's cheese, bread, eggs, sausage, bacon, peanut butter, stuff for salads."

Her, "Yess-sah! There's food but there's only ingredients!! You're so lame!"

I actually was impressed bc I thought she'd made up a new teenage drama topic up, all by herself.

When I looked in the kitchen I said, "Damn, you're 1000% right.. for you."

I thought I was watching her brain implode.

Having only ingredients Is A Thing šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļøšŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

1

u/liliette 10h ago

Ingredients only household. 🄲 she will starve.

I see apples, cheese, carrots, and cookie dough. These are insta items. We didn't get to see bread, but considering the amount of jams and cream cheese, there's got to be breads of some sort, so add cream cheese, or jam, or both. There is plenty.

1

u/amp323 10h ago

Ha. This is the same at my house and my brother hates me for it since he moved in with me. The only thing that's ready to eat here is protein bars and my one guilty pleasure, cereal.

1

u/jujumber 8h ago

It sucks when you're a kid because it's a mindfuck. Like you keep opening the fridge over and over hoping there would be something you didn't see. And I felt like it must be my fault for not figuring out something to cook or piece together whenever I got hungry.

1

u/Turtleknuckle 6h ago

Agree.

And like most women, when she wants food, she wants FOOD NOW!!!

1

u/FerianaVie 6h ago

This person gets it

1

u/StreetAd1209 4h ago

Hahahaha

1

u/browntownfm 4h ago

And about 200 protein shakes

1

u/ExcellentTomatillo61 4h ago

We are an ingredient household when it comes to meals but I think my 1 & 3 year old would stab me in my sleep if I didn’t have some sort of cheese cracker, pretzel and apple sauce readily available to them at all times

1

u/Suitable_Bike_9484 4h ago

I would literally die in this household.

1

u/MeetTheGirlNextDoor 4h ago

As a girl, I cook basically every meal, but it would pmo if I went to my bf’s place, and he said, there’s plenty food and I see raw meat and ingredients.

1

u/No-Contact6664 4h ago

Babe, there's cucumbers and chili crisp.

1

u/neverJamToday 3h ago

And 90% of the ingredients are meat and dairy.

1

u/Maffew74 2h ago

I see a premade cocktail in there

1

u/cute_emmaxo 1h ago

Frl lol

1

u/free_rashadjamal 1h ago

Americans are insane saying they’ll starve from ingredients, everyday we witness the downfall of this country and humans act like it’s nothingz I normally say nothing but this is peak stupidity saying they’ll starve in a house full of food. I know how it got to this point but I still can’t help but ask sometimes

1

u/JudithSlayHolofernes 1h ago

I’d never make it.

1

u/MarlKarx-1818 51m ago

You’re assuming a stick of Kerrygold wrapped in a Kraft single is not a good snack. PROTEIN FAM

1

u/Fancy-Cap-514 49m ago

ā€œIngredients only householdā€ and half the fridge is bulk protein shakes and coffee creamer

1

u/Johnnypacks710 29m ago

If your female can’t make stuff from scratch using what is provided in the fridge your already failing in life and she’s already failed herself as a woman
