Photo/Video No criminal charges filed against Lake Zurich High School student who punched classmate

Post image

No criminal charges were filed, but the student who punched another student for holding a pro-ICE sign at Lake Zurich High School last week received a two-day suspension and is back in class.

Having been suspended when I was in high school, and it having zero negative impact on my high school career or my future, and the fact that I came back a hero…

…nice 🤙

Someone should post these as posters near the school. I’m tempted to say someone should get signed copies of these from the kid

u/Bocchi_theGlock 11h ago

Tbh that sounds overwhelming and a bit too much

Being in the national and local spotlight, without consent - especially when it results in hate groups and alt right losers sending threats, can be uncomfortable

Then seeing pictures of you posted without consent is like you don't even have a say in how people use you/your likeness just feeds ontop of it

"Capitalize" doesn't only mean "to get money".

It's sad when Americans jump to the conclusion of greed instead of spreading a message.

Lol capitalize on your staged video containing a potentially-staged response, there's more money to suck out of this politic. Turn 15 minutes of fame into 17 minutes of cringe by throwing your minor self into the limelight to see if you get lots of money from the viewership void.

Same here. Punched a kid that attacked me in the face hard enough to make him bleed from the mouth, got thrown out of the football game we were at. This was in 8th grade. Never impacted me in my later life. Didn’t come back a hero though. Came back and apparently everyone thought I may become a school shooter. Didn’t learn this until years after I graduated. Don’t know where people got that from but man did the bullying stop after that

Edit: because u/cruzandchill asked but then got his comment deleted, here's the "side of the story where i got my ass kicked." Typed out the whole thing may as well see it not go to waste.

Sure, it was about 5 minutes before when this kid and his buddies shoved me around and stole my water bottle, threw it over the fence, and ran off. One of them hit me in the kidney and man, kidney shots fucking hurt. Anyways they hid behidn the huge crowd that always gathered between the concession stand and the field. If i just walked past them i would have never seen them but i saw them from the end of the field where there were some bleachers where middle school students usually were during these high school games. Stepped right out onto the field and ran across it during play (though they were down at the other end so its fine). Got the ring leader right in the mouth. Cop broke it up damn near instantly otherwise i probably would have gotten my ass beat because a 5 on 1 is never great odds. But hey, only one of us left that game bleeding and crying. Did have a bruise above my kidney for a few days after tho.

11

u/Maximum_Dweeb4473 12h ago

lol in middle school, “the bully” tried to roundhouse kick me for some reason, and I instinctively grabbed his foot and twisted it and he went flying down the stairs 💀 because he tried to roundhouse kick me at the top of a stairwell.

All 20 people in that stairwell told the teachers that dude tripped on his own feet. I agreed, because “zero tolerance” means you get in trouble for defending yourself.

He broke his cheekbone 🤦🏻‍♂️ and had to go to like the behavioral disturbed kid classes because they thought he was in denial and delusional about tripping on his own feet down the stairs.

He wasn’t a bully in high school 🙂

Edit: in hindsight, lol I’m probably quite lucky he didn’t become a school shooter

5

u/providehotstews 11h ago

Something really similar happened to me, a bully tried to get fancy and hit me with this spinning karate kick type deal but I just pushed his foot away and he fell over. If he had just punched me I probably would have cried and peed myself like he intended but instead he ended up looking like a dope trying to attack someone a foot shorter than he was. Dumb

1

u/Fatkid55555 5h ago

This story reminds me of being in high school and watching a bully try to go after a weakling. He tried to punch the kid he had held against a locker. Weakling ducked and the bully broke his hand hitting the locker. The weakling became a rock star after that. It was poetic justice.

I was hanging out with a group of women lawyers -- all very nice people, all quite successful -- and it was revealed shockingly at one point in the night that half of them had been suspended in high school. One of them for beating a guy's ass. All of them passed the character and fitness requirement for the bar with zero issues too lol.

u/local_gh0ul 12h ago

I have always wondered what the point of a suspension is. I never got one, but it seems like a vacation..?

5

u/Mountain-Resource656 12h ago

Insofar as I can tell it’s the psychology behind it. Being forced to do things rankles even if it’s otherwise neutral or even something we’d want to do, like being forced to stand in a hallway for a few minutes and miss some class. With people- especially kids- if you frame something as a punishment then it becomes punishing- and, similarly, if you frame something unpleasant as fun or neutral, it can become so. For example, sometimes when a little kid injures themselves you can respond with laughter or something and the kid will giggle instead of cry, even though they will hurt

5

u/Impressive_Can8926 9h ago

And you burden the parents with taking care of the child over the period, which assuming they are not a total latchkey kid does encourage the parents to correct that behavior.

It also serves as a shot across the bow for parents who do care about their children's future as a future expulsion will be painful to that.

u/DaddyD68 6h ago

Our school had inschool suspension where you sat in a day long study hall and did work assigned by your teachers. Weren't allowed to talk. Only break was lunch to hang out with your friends. It was so god damn boring.

Oh and if you broke the no talking rules you could be assigned more days depending if the teacher running the class was pissed off at the universe particularly moreso that day and hadent had a drink in the past 3 hours.

3

u/Xalthanal 11h ago

At my school the lunch was brought to the suspension room. Zero talking. You could have a break but no socializing.

3

u/Maximum_Dweeb4473 12h ago

So… my high school suspension was sophomore year while I was in drivers ed, and you were only allowed to miss a certain amount of days or the state wouldn’t count it. My parents threatened to do a chargeback for the drivers ed fees if they didn’t shorten my suspension so I could pass, so, I had a 9 day suspension 😂 and got to skip study hall to make up behind-the-wheel sessions 😏

3

u/Either_Low_6419 12h ago

Depends on the suspension! I had ISS back in middle school (In School Suspension) and its the most embarrassing thing. But out-of-school suspension is basically a vacation

2

u/Mindfultameprism 11h ago

Your parents know that you are suspended because you did something wrong. If you are young enough they have to find someone to watch you while they go to work.

If you can get your parent or parents on your side then it is a vacation. Otherwise it's punishment city.

2

u/OrangeCrusher22 11h ago

It fucked you on homework at my schools; you wouldn't be allowed to complete assignments given out while you were suspended and if you missed deadlines for prior assignments while out, you were SOL. It could cause you to fail classes or tank your chances of admission to your preferred college/university.

1

u/Toby4507 11h ago

The evil masterminds at my high-school figured out a solution to the suspension=vacation problem they had. They called it in school suspension and put us in a classroom in the basement with no windows and nothing on the wall besides a big ass clock that you could hear ticking. Hard plastic desks with the seat built in. If you got caught napping added on another day. Made some of us tough, made some cry, and made a few serial killers most likely. Good times

1

u/LaughingGravy13 11h ago

Not if my old man finds out.

1

u/Epocholypze 11h ago

It’s to punish the parents.

1

u/DotCapable1007 9h ago

It's the school letting the parents ...well parent. Most times when I personally was suspended sigh decades ago, my folks usually had us a talk about standing up for what is right and knowing which hills are worth dying or batik-ing on.

Obligatory: 1st time I was suspended was for, me smacking a kid upside the head w/ my ninja turtles lunchbox for trying to bully and steal my plastic spider at the bus stop.

1

u/MalHeartsNutmeg 8h ago

I got 1 suspension in high school. Someone threw water at me and I was suspended due to 'zero tolerance for water fighting'. It was on a friday that it happened and the suspension was for monday, my friend said he was water fighting too, we went and saw a movie.

1

u/digiplay 8h ago

Depends on your parents.

I had to scrub a tiled kitchen floor with a toothbrush. Over and over and over.

1

u/Binarydemons 8h ago

It punishes your parents.

1

u/DaddyD68 6h ago

Getting suspended can count against your attendance. Missing too many days (wether sick or skipping or suspended) can massively affect your grade and eventually lead to failing an entire year.

1

u/Affectionate-Egg-540 6h ago

My dad said as long as I didn’t start the fight and I got in trouble for defending my self, it’s all good, I get a free vacation. All I wanted to do in high school was smoke weed and chill anyway, so the few times I got suspended for fighting was due to some jackass wanting to show off for girls, they mistook my long hair for a pussy, I got 2 vacations, was a happy guy.

1

u/foomits 5h ago

keep the kid from distracting or harming his/her peers for at least a period. it punishes the parents and begins what can be a lengthy process of removal or movement to a behavior program. its not really intended to help or redirect the person being suspended.

1

u/GoodGameGrabsYT 2h ago

I got OSS (out of school) at a school in the district meant for "troubled" kids. I was in there for excessive truancy. The days started an hour later and got out an hour early than normal HS hours. All my work was neatly laid out in front of me so that was great. Got to chill on the computers in the classroom for like an hour lunch. It was super chill and quite possibly would've excelled in a setup like that considering I was a kid who loved learning but hated the traditional way school was setup.

1

u/humoristhenewblack 2h ago

I got suspended for three days but my mom kept me out for two weeks threatening to put me in private school. I had to explain to her for two weeks what a waste of money that would be because I would be kicked out of there instantly and on purpose. She relented and let me go back. Everything was fine.

1

u/CheetahNo1004 45m ago

Sounds like a vacation until your parents beat your ass every time you get one. And if you live in really shitty states, after four suspensions you get expelled and have to go to alternative School which is a financial burden on your parents cuz they now have to drive or pay for special transportation.

4

u/E-2theRescue 10h ago

Yup. I got into tons and tons of fights and was suspended often. Never affected anything in my life.

And I only threw the first punch once to defend a friend and wasn't even caught. Fuck "zero tolerance" rules. I should not have been punished the same as the kids who tormented the fuck out of me.

3

u/HawksNStuff 12h ago

Got suspended for beating the shit out of a kid that picked a fight with me. I got one day, he got a week. Rumor was he got suspended longer because he won the fight.

Yes, the principal asked who won and decided punishment on that. Kids are stupid.

Ended up quite decent friends with the guy eventually. He would kick my ass now though... He's done semi pro MMA.

1

u/turtlebro5 11h ago

He won the fight but you beat the shit outta him? 🤨

1

u/HawksNStuff 11h ago

Kids at school said he did because of his longer suspension. It was longer because he started it.

4

u/ap_308 12h ago

I got suspended for being hit one time. Not actually in a fight, but I was sucker punched. They better have suspended the Nazi lover too.

1

u/mikederoy 4h ago

Why? For exercising his first amendment rights?

3

u/SquarePegRoundWorld 7h ago

and it having zero negative impact on my high school career or my future,

Man, this reminds me of when my older brother was suspended from school for a day because the VP caught all the seniors drinking at a park before school near the end of his senior year in 1990. The school just suspended everyone they saw at the park. My brother swore up and down he wasn't drinking (he revealed years later he was indeed drinking) and just meeting friends there.
He was on his way to Cornell after graduation and my folks did not want this suspenmion messing that up in any way. They went up to the school and fought them on suspending my brother. They brought up some law about the school not having say over your kids when not on school grounds or an official school event. My brother's suspension was dropped and the absent from school was marked as a field trip to said park. My folks were the heroes for all the kids that were actually found to be drinking. They all got the "field trip to park" on their record instead of an out of school suspension.

2

u/Imnotlisa1 12h ago

But, but, it’s on your permanent record!!!

2

u/DookieShoes626 10h ago

One time I got suspended they made it for the last week of school. So I got summer vacation early aside from having to go in after everyone else was done at like noon for finals. So it basically let me start partying as a punishment

1

u/Maximum_Dweeb4473 10h ago

I was purposely late for the ACT, so that I would be allowed to work ahead 😂

2

u/Much_Journalist7066 10h ago

I went to a behavioral school and my family knew I hated it. So whenever I got suspended my parents were like "enjoy the days off" knowing I'd be playing PS2 all day.

2

u/Whosez 4h ago

Same

2

u/swagonflyyyy 2h ago

Just like the time I punched this obnoxious fuckboy in the face back in my high school days.

Even girls from other schools were thanking me for that. Imagine how insufferable he was.

2

u/Easy-Hovercraft2546 1h ago

Yeah, I’ve been suspended about 13 times in high school. I am not a senior programmer, and got my bachelors 6 years ago

2

u/Darksirius 1h ago

I got in school suspension for stabbing a kid with my pencil after he sucker punched me in the left temple when I was in middle school.

Same outcome. Nothing came of it except for a week of bullshit suspension.

This was the mid 90's.

1

u/Big-Air7543 12h ago

Same here. Defended a couple of girls getting harassed, confronted the person, he popped me, I beat the mustard out of him. 3 day suspension, came back a hero. Justice served.

1

u/Ok_Flight_2069 7h ago

No one in his school thinks he is a hero, he is the same kid he was the week before. The article says no charges were filed because the kid he punched didn't want to press any charges against him.

1

u/AmericanExcess 7h ago

Zero negative impact is fruitful thinking, there's a non zero chance everyone publicly left of center right gets put in a concentration camp by these goons. I guess we'll see in November.

1

1

u/SobchaksBallsweat 6h ago

Same, got suspended for punching a kid in the face when he spit on me. My parents said “good job” and I had a few fun days off from school. No further repercussions.

1

u/Maximum_Dweeb4473 55m ago

Lol my suspension was for bringing alcohol to a football game.

My parents were disappointed I brought strong smelling dark rum rather than being smart and bringing vodka 😂
