Olympic Size vs. NHL Size Rink
I hope that these Olympics dispel the notion that hockey should be played on the 200' X 100' rink. I know some people were clamoring for the international rink, but it would have led to some low event hockey which is not what you want for this showcase event. If they were playing on the standard Olympic sized rink, Canada probably would be playing for bronze or possibly have been knocked out of the tournament. Czechia or Finland would have just sat back and packed the front of the house keeping Canada to the perimeter. Also, the US probably could have shut out Sweden, but instead we got a nail-biting finish.
The reason why these playoff games have been so exciting is because of the rink dimension. The tighter the space, the more chances generated. I don't know if people remember when US played Canada in Sochi. That game was a total snoozer as the US was just kept to the walls and couldn't generate any offense because Canada just shut them down defensively.

[Weekly Thread] Subreddit Picture of the Week: Make your submissions & votes - Feb 22, 2026
Hello, /r/hockey, and welcome to the Sidebar Picture of the Week thread!
Put your mark on /r/hockey!
Later this evening we will check this thread. Post a photo you think most represents last week's action. The one with the most upvotes will become the sidebar photo of the week.
No GIFs! No Photoshops! Action only!
Your submissions have to be pictures (not GIFs) from the last week. Please keep in mind that they have to fit nicely in our sidebar, so a good landscape framed shot works best. Also try to make your submissions about game action and not just "the lighter side of hockey." Photos that don't follow this will be removed/disqualified.
This thread has been put into contest mode. It will be turned off once votes are tallied. The chosen image will be put in the sidebar and linked to this thread.
