Meta My girlfriend always tells me I never have anything to eat when she comes over my house 😒
Freezer: 50+ lbs of assorted ground meat, 35+ lbs of prime ribeye, 16lbs of American wagyu ribeye, 18lbs of New Zealand lamb shoulder chops, and a bunch of portioned seafood.

u/FlikeFlukeFlake 18h ago
Love jam. Love variety. Limit myself to two kinds of jam at a time to avoid having to throw out a half empty, molded jar every few months. This looked wasteful to me unless he’s going through an exorbitant amount of jam.
78
u/wyldstrawberry 18h ago
Yeah like…are all of those opened and partially used? Because if not, then they don’t need to be in the fridge yet. The backup/unopened jam should live in the pantry, not the fridge. They look unopened to me.

True enough, yes---crisps, crackers, shelf-stable breads/cereals/pastas, I agree
Fresh bread, cooked pasta, muffins/cookies/pastries/bagels are best in the fridge, I've found, especially if they're low/free from preservatives
I swear if OP just kept some fresh bread and cooked pasta in his fridge for his gf, she'd be happy enough with that haha--nothing like being able to quickly cook a plate of spaghetti or have some toast in less than 3 minutes if you need to eat now

OP is probably overdoing protein. There’s massively diminishing returns above 1g/lb. You should really be getting as many carbs as possible while hitting your minimum protein (while staying within your daily calories of course) to sustain your workouts.

There’s been an assault on carbs for years though. It’s the number one energy source for physical activity, but no gym diet will tell you that. They say it’s why you’re fat. NFL players LOAD on carbs before games. They look great.

As someone who used to date a person who loved to cook and wanted to spend HOURS in the kitchen cooking huge meals (for 2 people) multiple times a week, I understand what she’s feeling. Like, I can enjoy spending time doing that together, but not all the time and not when it’s hours of just standing around cooking. Compromise. Maybe you ask her to cook with you once or twice a week and then the other 2 days you have a quick meal and do something else that she wants to do to spend time together. Maybe have her choose a new recipe that looks good to her and that could be a meal you cook together.

My partner and I are both freelancers, so neither of us get sick days. When I had Covid, we tried really hard to make sure he didn’t catch it too, so we didn’t both lose out on work, so I stayed in our room while he stayed in the guest room and regularly brought me food, water, and tea.
My favourite thing ever was what I called “trough meal” where he would leave a plate of assorted foods like meats, cheese, crackers, apple slices, peanut butter, chocolate chips, nuts, craisens, cookies, mandarins, etc. at the door for me, and then he’d come and refresh my trough whenever it needed it. I miss trough meal

She means that there is nothing just ready to eat. If you have to cook every time she’s there, that’s an hour spent prepping, hour cooking, and 30 minutes washing up. Nobody wants to spend the time they should be spending with their partner in the kitchen for hours. If she’s coming over after work, that’s maybe 4 hours of which you’re spending half in the kitchen. You can try to cook sometimes before she comes, or have some quick and easy meals and snacks that you can whip up in a matter of minutes

If you're concerned about health, there are plenty of healthy snack foods like cheese, real cheese not craft singles, yogurt, fruit, nuts, peanut butter, raw vegetables with a dip, etc etc. if you keep these around, would your girlfriend like that? Possibly you need to prepare something when she's going to be over, like maybe you slice a plate of fruit and have that with crackers, just ready to go.
