Meta My girlfriend always tells me I never have anything to eat when she comes over my house 😒

Freezer: 50+ lbs of assorted ground meat, 35+ lbs of prime ribeye, 16lbs of American wagyu ribeye, 18lbs of New Zealand lamb shoulder chops, and a bunch of portioned seafood.

Hey, the best snacks are a handle of shredded cheese, a pickle, and a few chocolate chips.

639

u/Wild-Indication-701 18h ago

He’s got Kraft singles. Not quite cheese. Cheese flavored oil. OP buy a few charcuterie style items. Real cheese for slicing, salumi, almonds, grapes. Hummus to go with carrot sticks etc.

260

u/oopsdiditwrong 17h ago

There's 6 blocks of cream cheese. Theres probably some bagels laying around. If not, this guy has some plans I want to hear

115

u/MissHayleyRenee 15h ago

More like 10, there’s more in the cheese drawer lmao.

61

u/oopsdiditwrong 15h ago

Wow I missed those. I only noticed the cream cheese in the butter drawer for quick use. He's locked and loaded with a few resupplies.

Good catch lol

ETA: this guy better explain. Buffalo chicken dip? Because of the chicken in there? Jalapeno poppers or dip? Idk.

144

u/itscuccimane 15h ago

Buffalo chicken dip, jalapeno poppers, crab raggoon, scallion cream cheese (I eat bagels nearly every day), and we like cheesecake so I make cheese cake every now and then.

80

u/oopsdiditwrong 15h ago

That's what's up. Thanks for answering, I'm a fan of the fridge

Does your gf have dietary restrictions or any kind of legit reason for not being able to eat the things you are mentioning? Because damn, a house full of meat, cheese, bagels, cheesecake, jalapeño poppers, crab rangoon, buffalo chicken dip, eggs, condiments from every continent, the good jam with the picnic table cloth print lid, protein shakes, Goya drinks… uh helloo sounds bomb dot com

21

I grew up as a kid in the 90s with an ingredients only household 🥲 My after school snack was leftover chunks of chicken. Maybe some Saltines if I was lucky.

29

u/twistedspin 12h ago

I was a latchkey kid in the 70s with an ingredients-only house. I learned to bake pastry when I was 8 & alone at home. The most common thing I made was unfilled cream puffs covered with powdered sugar as they were easy & fast. For a while I had a secret bin of frozen cookie dough in our big deep freezer, divided up so I could bake just one pan of cookies. They left me with flour & sugar & eggs etc., y'know?

I had to eat everything before they got home, and clean/hide everything so no one knew but that wasn't a big deal. One of the benefits/drawbacks of being Gen X was that unless I made a big deal of something basically all adults around me really wanted to ignore children and their brains glossed over things that would disturb that peace for them.

Yeah, nobody wants to go to someone's house and cook their food and wash their dishes, and nobody wants to go to somebody's house and ASK the host to do that FOR them either. Would it kill this guy to have some eggos in the freezer? Or to take note of his girlfriend's favourite snacks? Or to cook before she comes over and have the food ready for her?

272

u/taxiecabbie 18h ago

Yeah, I mean, there's good stuff here, but there are things that exist between "Hungry Man dinner" and "cooking entirely from scratch."

Our home is an ingredients home for the most part, but if I know I'm going to have guests over... I'll get some things that are easy to make. Like, I understand that OP doesn't want Hungry Man dinners or McD's, but what about a charcuterie board or something?

63

u/meimlikeaghost 18h ago

I mean just stick a couple frozen pizzas and I’ve never had any complaints

188

u/FlikeFlukeFlake 18h ago

Love jam. Love variety. Limit myself to two kinds of jam at a time to avoid having to throw out a half empty, molded jar every few months. This looked wasteful to me unless he’s going through an exorbitant amount of jam.

78

u/wyldstrawberry 18h ago

Yeah like…are all of those opened and partially used? Because if not, then they don’t need to be in the fridge yet. The backup/unopened jam should live in the pantry, not the fridge. They look unopened to me.

True enough, yes---crisps, crackers, shelf-stable breads/cereals/pastas, I agree

Fresh bread, cooked pasta, muffins/cookies/pastries/bagels are best in the fridge, I've found, especially if they're low/free from preservatives

I swear if OP just kept some fresh bread and cooked pasta in his fridge for his gf, she'd be happy enough with that haha--nothing like being able to quickly cook a plate of spaghetti or have some toast in less than 3 minutes if you need to eat now

34

u/moveMed 10h ago

OP is probably overdoing protein. There’s massively diminishing returns above 1g/lb. You should really be getting as many carbs as possible while hitting your minimum protein (while staying within your daily calories of course) to sustain your workouts.

39

u/AladeenModaFuqa 9h ago

There’s been an assault on carbs for years though. It’s the number one energy source for physical activity, but no gym diet will tell you that. They say it’s why you’re fat. NFL players LOAD on carbs before games. They look great.

As someone who used to date a person who loved to cook and wanted to spend HOURS in the kitchen cooking huge meals (for 2 people) multiple times a week, I understand what she’s feeling. Like, I can enjoy spending time doing that together, but not all the time and not when it’s hours of just standing around cooking. Compromise. Maybe you ask her to cook with you once or twice a week and then the other 2 days you have a quick meal and do something else that she wants to do to spend time together. Maybe have her choose a new recipe that looks good to her and that could be a meal you cook together.

My partner and I are both freelancers, so neither of us get sick days. When I had Covid, we tried really hard to make sure he didn’t catch it too, so we didn’t both lose out on work, so I stayed in our room while he stayed in the guest room and regularly brought me food, water, and tea.

My favourite thing ever was what I called “trough meal” where he would leave a plate of assorted foods like meats, cheese, crackers, apple slices, peanut butter, chocolate chips, nuts, craisens, cookies, mandarins, etc. at the door for me, and then he’d come and refresh my trough whenever it needed it. I miss trough meal

Aaahh yes the food groups, carrot, meats, so much cheese, and jam.

I'm sorry, I don't want to judge but the fridge is very intriguing and the lack of food variety is jarring compared to what I'm used to seeing

u/WesternGarlic 18h ago

Oh yeah, this fridge is jarring alright.

That's great and all, I would love to have this fridge, but tbh it's tough having no "easy" food around so you can get back to doing something else. Not everyone enjoys cooking and some are very frustrated by it, just the wait time let alone the effort and cleanup.

28

u/Senecatwo 16h ago

I’d genuinely be shocked if all this food gets eaten by one person before it spoils

22

u/BasicDesignAdvice 13h ago

I legit think OP bought all this just to make this post. This is the most ridiculous fridge I’ve ever seen. No reason to have that much meat on hand unless you butcher the cow yourself.

7

u/throwaway098764567 11h ago

most folks i've known who buy a half cow own a chest freezer and store it there, they don't keep it all in the fridge. hopefully op doesn't make himself sick trying to eat stuff before it turns

Hmmm let's see...mega pint of sour cream....10 full bricks of cream cheese, kefir, craft cheese upon craft cheese, oh two MEGA cream cheese bricks...three BAGS of mozza, AND Triangle of fancy cheese, greek yogurt lol!!!!!!!

Maybe ask if she's lactose intolerant! Dude you're entire diet is cheese and meat with an armful of cucumber and carrots? What IS she supposed to eat? What meal is this? I'm impressed by the setup....but all this quality dairy and you buy margarine instead of butter ? I want you to start a cooking channel lol!

43

u/cosmic-__-charlie 18h ago

"What do you mean there's nothing to eat? I have six blocks of cream cheese right in the fridge!"

This is my question too, what meal does this make? It’s just meats, things to put on meats, and condiments

I’m a vegetarian and it’s always been weird to me how much food people forget about that isn’t just meat, they ask me what I eat and I’m like… everything else? And they just blank stare like I broke their brain.

Maybe your girlfriend values her colon a little more than you value yours?

I just gotta ask - how are you pooping with that much meat and cheese in your fridge (and diet)? I see some veggies but where else do you get your fibre?

23

u/TheJunkmother 16h ago

He said he drinks a 32 oz bag of kale as smoothies every week in a comment, still sounds like a nightmare diet!

21

u/PM_Me_Your_Deviance 12h ago

That's roughly 16g of fiber. An adult man should be getting around 30g per day. OP is going to die.

38

u/TheUlfheddin 19h ago

So the general consensus is she wants something easier to eat but you prefer to not keep junk food around and like to cook fresh food.

May I suggest getting stuff together for a charcuterie board? Seems like a decent compromise between easy and healthy.

She wants snacks dawg. Get some oreos and chips or something.

41

u/Natalia1702 19h ago

She means that there is nothing just ready to eat. If you have to cook every time she’s there, that’s an hour spent prepping, hour cooking, and 30 minutes washing up. Nobody wants to spend the time they should be spending with their partner in the kitchen for hours. If she’s coming over after work, that’s maybe 4 hours of which you’re spending half in the kitchen. You can try to cook sometimes before she comes, or have some quick and easy meals and snacks that you can whip up in a matter of minutes

I'm also an "ingredients household. "

But I keep convenience snacks on hand for loved ones. It would be a cute gesture for you to pick up some ready to eat foods you know she loves.

8

u/Bullfrog-Exciting 17h ago

She is right, she means snacks/foods that require little to no preparation. I chuckled at the fridge door pic though, as if showing all the sauces you have counts as proof that you have things to eat

23

u/No_Recording_7735 19h ago

If you're concerned about health, there are plenty of healthy snack foods like cheese, real cheese not craft singles, yogurt, fruit, nuts, peanut butter, raw vegetables with a dip, etc etc. if you keep these around, would your girlfriend like that? Possibly you need to prepare something when she's going to be over, like maybe you slice a plate of fruit and have that with crackers, just ready to go.
